Absolutely stunning food! We wandered into this venue by accident as so much of the town was still closed and I am SO pleased that we did. The inside was much bigger than it looks, was spotlessly clean and we were greeted and seated within about 60 seconds. The menus were ambitious and initially I was concerned because sometimes this means a chef that cannot produce what is promised. Not an issue here. We shared a breadboard first which was divine, and then a scampi, and a beef brisket for main course. The brisket was hands down the best I have had in a restaurant and that includes the famous Bibi's in Leeds. Finished with a sticky toffee pudding and I had to be rolled out of the pub as the portions are very generous and we did not need anything else for that day. Very decent price too. Totally recommend this venue and the lad with short brown hair was the star of the service. Have a look at the photos. Absolutely stunning food!

Very disappointed with Sunday lunch. My brisket was lovely/tender however, mashed potatoes, more like mush, roast potatoes tasty except for the burnt edges, carrots ok, cauliflower cheese awful. Tasted just wrong, would have been better uncheesed, gravy watery, red cabbage ok. Might have persevered with the dried out Yorkie pudding but gave up because of gravy accompanying it as mentioned. Sorry, if this is sounding harsh, but honestly trying to reflect our experience. My partner was so disappointed with the tough/rubbery sirloin on the bone, confusingly served off the bone had the same experience with veg mentioned that she barely ate at all! Just very disappointed. Maybe was just an off day. Left feeling starving as we only ate a tiny bit as it was that bad. Service was very slow but was pleasant

We visited The Market Tavern after a day at Alnwick Garden. £13.95 for a 'sirloin' beef lunch - but it absolutely was not. The meat was fatty, overcooked and all of the veg tasted like it had been reheated. The mashed potato was hard & lumpy, roast potatoes overcooked and the Yorkshire pudding was as sturdy as a Frisbee. The only edible part was the Turnip. My boyfriend ordered a £30 sirloin steak and requested it blue, however, it turned up well done. Neither of us ate our meals. When asked by the staff if everything was OK, we did voice our disappointment and as a good will gesture they removed the steak from the bill. The pub is grubby & could do with updating, however, the staff are friendly. Wouldn't recommend this pub for food.

Nipped in here for a quick lunch while in the area and walked out full and very satisfied from a high quality meal. When shopping in alnwick I got recommended to visit here for food, I thought I'd walk by and try it. There was a few tables spare and I was quickly seated. Every member of staff was polite and welcoming, it felt like walking into your own local. I ordered a dressed crab sandwich and my girlfriend ordered the steak baguette. Both meals were absolutely beautiful, you can tell they don't skimp with quality here. I had a pint of pale ale from a local brewery which was also clean, crisp and full of flavour. All in all we came out very satisfied and I will definitely return when next in the area.

Amazingly, everything here was good. Beef brisket Sunday roast was so soft you could flake it off, and rib-eye was tender and of a good cut. Sticky ginger pudding with ice cream was excellent. Wait staff friendly and helpful. We liked it so much we pre-ordered their shepherd's pie to takeaway tomorrow (because their tavern specials are not available on Sundays).
