Restaurant du Peuple in Sousse is a true haven for lovers of authentic Tunisian cuisine. This charming eatery perfectly blends the warmth of local hospitality with the rich flavors of traditional dishes, making it a must-visit for both tourists and locals. We started our meal with fresh baguette and a bowl of house-made soup. The soup was comforting and full of earthy, spiced flavors that immediately whetted our appetites. Accompanying these were sides of sauces and a delightful eggplant dip, which was smoky, creamy, and packed with layers of flavor—a perfect complement to the bread. For the main course, we indulged in Couscous with Chicken and the Berber Casserole with Fish. The Couscous with Chicken was an instant classic—fluffy, flavorful couscous paired with tender, well-spiced chicken and a medley of vegetables cooked to perfection. Each bite was a symphony of flavors that reflected Tunisia’s rich culinary heritage. The Berber Casserole with Fish was equally delightful. The fish was fresh and flaky, bathed in a rich, aromatic sauce that was both hearty and satisfying. The traditional Berber spices and the slow-cooked preparation elevated the dish, making it a standout item on the menu. The ambiance of Restaurant du Peuple was cozy and inviting, with a rustic charm that made us feel right at home. The staff were attentive and eager to share the stories behind the dishes, adding a personal touch to our dining experience.

The Berber casserole lamb featured a slow-cooked piece of lamb, falling off the bone, a tender perfection. It had a dominant turmeric taste with hints of rosemary and parsley. Included were some slow-cooked potato’s and cuts of eggplant, which were too, falling apart softly, infused with the turmeric flavour. The fisherman’s pot included prawns, mussels and fish. There was a rich fish-stock-broth, with notes of paprika, turmeric and cayenne pepper. The pot was served with a light tasting rice, harnessing flavours of turmeric and saffron. The soup was a light tomato soup, refreshing at the end of the feed and also good for cleansing the palate between bites. The Mechouia dip was sensational. It’s a Berber dip made from green and red peppers, onion, caraway, coriander, garlic and chilli. It was served with a surprisingly good spring roll and a simple salad. Of course there was an endless supply of baguettes on the table too!

This Tunisian restaurant feels like being welcomed into a family home. The talented female chef prepares everything in view, and her son, our friendly and polite waiter, adds a warm touch to the experience. Our meal started with a soup and Tunisian salad, included with every order. I had the spicy octopus spaghetti, which was full of flavor, and my friend enjoyed the fantastic chicken couscous, perfectly tender and filling. Portions are generous, so come very hungry. Ask for extra salt, pepper, lemon, or Harissa on the side to adjust the spice to your liking. A truly satisfying experience.

We came here because of the good reviews and the hotel recommended.but so disappointed.bad service⚠️and the seafood not fresh! The guy apologized for it and ask for give the second chance.so we come again.but worse than the first time.I ordered spicy food.but no spicy at all and I asked for some chilli sauce. I need to pay extra fee for the chilli sauce if I want☹️because they said is my problem that I feel no spicy?? And mentioned that we two people only ordered one set. Excuse me??Is that no allowed for 2 people ordered one for sharing?

A cute hole in the wall restaurant that is found around the Medina of Sousse. It has won a Tripadvisor award for one of the best restaurants. Some of the dishes were already sold out by the time we arrived. We ordered the beef casserole, it came with two huge chunks of meat and a sauce that was great for dipping with bread. The other dish was grilled fish of the day, served with rice and grilled vegetables. The fish was very fresh. After the meal, they served us a glass of mint tea to cleanse the palate.

It is the best restaurant in Tunisia. The owners are so nice and friendly. The food was so good that I ate all even though I had much food before and I wasn’t that hungry. They don’t have English menu but it wasn’t a problem at all as the restaurant owner explained menu with pictures. The best service with the best quality. I think I never forget this wonderful restaurant, I am so lucky I experienced this restaurant during Tunisia trip. you should visit if you wanna really good food!
