I made a dinner reservation at Goksu Lokantalan just a couple of hours in advance and was lucky to get an early table for two. The building itself was amazing; almost like a cruise liner dining room from bygone days with lots of dark wood panelling, chandeliers and a beautiful carpet, not to mention a large central water feature which sounded lovely throughout the evening. The staff were very attentive despite being busy with large parties of guests and when it became apparent we spoke no Turkish they found a member of the team who spoke English to assist. Recommendations were given for a borscht soup with sour cream which was perfection served alongside fresh Turkish bread. We ate a salad with walnuts, cheese and dried apricots with honey dressing and then my husband had tenderloin steak with a variety of fresh vegetables and garlic potatoes which he said was the best steak he had ever eaten. I noticed the portion was a very generous two steak portionwhich kept him very happy. I opted for a lamb kebab dish with a tomato sauce, buttered rice and yoghurt. The lamb was really flavoursome and tender and I was super pleased with my choice. We were too full for dessert unfortunately because they all sounded mouth-wateringly good. However, this is a good excuse to return on our next trip to Ankara! My husband had a pint of Carlsberg which was cheaper than the UK and I had fresh squeezed orange juice as well as a good few cups of Turkish tea. The bill came to 3000 TL, currently about £60 which we thought was very reasonable for such a a lovely evening out. We would highly recommend this restaurant for a wide variety of...
Read moreDuring our one-day trip to Ankara, we were really impressed by the look of this place in the photos, and after seeing how highly praised their souffle was, we didn't hesitate to head here. We ordered the Halep-style mixed grill, lamb tandoor, and Göksu salad. Everything was meticulously prepared, and I can say that the meats were incredibly tender and delicious. The base of the mixed grill, made with tırnak pide and green onions/parsley, paired perfectly with the meats. Finally, we ordered the souffle. Since it takes about 40 minutes to prepare, if you order it along with your meal, you won't have to wait too long. The souffle's texture is wonderful, but without the chocolate sauce, it's quite light and doesn't really satisfy that chocolate craving. However, once you add the chocolate sauce, it becomes absolutely delicious! Its texture is already incredibly soft; if you're looking for richer chocolate flavors, I recommend using plenty of the chocolate sauce. The cream that came with the souffle and chocolate sauce didn't really impress me, as I don't think the souffle is heavy to begin with. If you're thinking of ordering ice cream to lighten the rich chocolate of the souffle, I can tell you the ice cream doesn't make much of a difference, and it's quite unlikely you'll find the souffle heavy anyway. So, you can comfortably enjoy it on its own. The restaurant's interior design, live music, and friendly staff are all added bonuses. We were very pleased with our visit and it will definitely be one of our first stops on our...
Read moreThis is such a special place, I loved everything, from food to service!
Our waiter gave all the info about the dishes, i.e., spiciness, waiting time, etc. We ordered a salad, some fried calamari, kofte, and souffle. They also give you free bread and butter. The food arrived fast, the only thing that took a long time was souffle but we were warned about that. My favourites were kofte and, of course, souffle. Words can't describe how much I enjoyed both of these dishes, top level!
The interior is beautiful and has a historical atmosphere. We were seated by the fountain, which was very nice. As I understand, these places are almost exclusively reserved for the couples, very cute.
We were also given a tour of the restaurant and learnt that it actually has 10 floors, 5 underground and 5 above the ground. A little tip: there is a great place for a photo at the top floor where you can get all the details of the beautiful roof.
As for the prices, I think they are very reasonable, considering the quality of food and the overall experience. We eneded paying a little under 1000 TL, that is 500 TL/person.
This was truly the highlight of our trip to Ankara! Can't wait...
