İSTANBUL; BOĞAZ’DA “İSMET BABA RESTAURANT” ÜZERİNE BİR ANI..

Yaklaşık 19-20 yıl önceydi. Bursa’dan her ay min.

O akşam öyle bir akşamdı, sadece o an’a özeldi.

Left a bad taste in our mouths… this place has a beautiful view and as expected, the price is higher given its location. The real negative was that the waiter that served us was not friendly nor welcoming. The fish is fresh but was not overly tasty. What topped off our experience was when we paid. Normally, we tip a server if the service was good and we had a nice experience. Here, the waiter did his job but was not hospitable and at times cold and dismissive. The bill was over 4000£ and despite the inhospitable service we left some cash on the table. He left the cash and told us it was not enough and we asked how much we should tip in Turkey and he simply said we had to tip more, his manner was rude throughout our dining experience but escalated at this point before storming off. We were left bewildered as typically you only tip in Turkey if the service is good and not compulsory as the waiter inferred… the waiters behaviour at the end confirmed the bad service for us. We would not recommend this place if you are looking for a tasty meal in a pleasant environment. If you are looking for an average meal, in a hostile environment but a nice backdrop-...

My first experience at the restaurant was good , The reason for this is because someone booked the table for me ,on the 20th of Jan 2019 i took one of client there ,Irritation started from choosing the table where 2 guys can not sit next to couples so we accepted sitting on the aisle , then we wanted to eat grilled calamari waiter says Not available ( Yok) asked for oysters not available again ( Yok ) my client says YOK YOK so whats available ,asked for deboned fish , not much fish is available for grilling , asked for Levrek but they can not grill the fish , so i asked the waiter which they can grill , he offered Lüfer so i said ok grill it but debone it,The whole fish came to the table and told him we asked why is it not deboned ? With a attitude he replied and pulled the plate aggressively and started seperating the bones ,my client couldn’t understand what he was saying but he could feel the waiter was complaining, so he rejected the fish as he would not eat it , So we asked for the bill and left the restaurant, and i am not going there again , Thank you for...

Let’s start with the positives: the setting is charming, and I had three small seafood meze dishes that were quite tasty. But let’s be honest — these were very small appetizers, barely enough to qualify as a single course. The waiters were quite insistent that I order a main dish, without giving any price indication. I declined — probably wisely, given other guests’ reviews. The bill? €31 for three bite-sized meze and a glass of water. That’s absurdly overpriced. To be fair, Baba is not the only one. Sadly, Istanbul’s dining scene has become overwhelmingly tourist-oriented, often at the expense of value and authenticity. It’s a growing trend — and a good reason not to return.

The moment we entered the restaurant - it felt wierd . they clearly didn’t want us in . although almost all seats were free and empty , they made us sit at one of the only two tables which had no views of the sea. They claimed all other tables were reserved, the whole time we were there no one came in . But overall the food was great , fish was fresh and tasty. i wouldn’t recommend visiting if you are not a turk or look white

I can’t get enough of this place. Literally my favourite place to eat in Istanbul. A proper local raki restaurant with delicious mezze and fish, view on the Bosphorus from the peaceful Asian side. It’s been there for 90 years and it’s always full (locals, rarely tourists). Staff is adorable and efficient. The perfect place to feel immersed in the Turkish culture.
