Caldera Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Bakırköy

I stopped by this place recently during a weekday afternoon. It took me a minute to locate it, the tables eventually gave it away. The food was definitely not fully Mexican - sort of a Turkish Mexican mix - but it's SO GOOD. I am a very picky eater and yet I cleared my plate entirely. I got a burrito that came with some sort of fresh veggie chili inside. Smothered in hot gooey cheese. The salsa was fresh. The chips were served hot. I am hoping to eat here again during my stay because it was that good! Music was pleasant. The place is beautifully decorated. The server was attentive without intruding. A+ all around. Everything is very affordable. If it's a nice day you can walk right over to the water afterwards and take in the view. This place is such a gem. I love it! Can't wait to come back.

The food was delicious, chips were warm and crispy and everything was fresh, however, we were charged for the chips+cream+salad that is brought at the beginning even though we didn't order it. If you're on a budget, make sure to ask if you have to pay for that appetizer (even though in most restaurants you don't) because we ended up paying 24tl extra for food they didn't ask if we wanted, nor did we ask for it.

The bill in total was 170tl for 3 people. We had classic nachos, a plate of tacos, quesadilla, steak and the plate of plain nachos we hadn't ordered, as well as two drinks. Our favorite was the classic nachos for sure!

Overall I recommend it but beware of...

This place is located on a side street and downstairs. It's hard to find, but when we walked in it screamed Mexico. The decorations were so cute and the service was great for a workplace of 2 people. Mexican salad and tortillas were also great. The burrito tasted good too, but I probably like the Turkish version better. Eating on a plate with a fork and knife is not my thing. We are thinking of visiting again soon because the amount of food you get for these prices is incredible, recommended...
