Sushi & Spice — Restaurant in Sarıyer

I am giving this 4 stars although personally i would give it 3 because the quality of the other sushi i have tried in Istanbul is very bad. So it is only 4 stars relative to the other options nearby.

The sushi here is decent quality. Passable and perfectly edible--unlike the sushi i tried at the nearby "sushi lab" which is straight garbage. At sushi lab, their "spicy tuna" roll is literally coated in a horrible tasting inedible chili powder. Here they at least do it properly with spicy mayo, although i would prefer to have the spicy mayo inside the roll than outside.

A few complaints: their soy sauce is way too sweet and i think they mix it with sugar. It seems like it might be chinese dark soy sauce which is not appropriate for sushi. I would recommend for them to replace it with a light soy sauce like kikkoman.

Also, they somehow have invented a wasabi that is not spicy at all. Wasabi should be spicy, that is why it exists. How is the spicy mayo spicier than a wasabi? You should only need a small dot to make your soy sauce spicy and i am using the whole glob.

Improving these aspects would make my experience much more enjoyable and perhaps i would come here...

Extremely upset at how I was treated today here. My 1.5 year old son dropped his crisps on the restaurant sofa. The manager came and screamed olmaz and some other words in Turkish that I didn’t understand. I apologised and tried to wipe down the chair.

When I came to pay, a large amount was added at the bottom of my bill. I asked what it was for then they pointed at the chair and said it was for the service (cleaning the chair).

I told them to refund my money for cleaning the chair and told them that this behaviour was extremely appalling. The manager took my son’s pushchair and took it out of the restaurant asking me to leave.

As I spoke in English he told me he spoke to me in Turkish telling me he speaks in Turkish. So I spoke to him in Turkish and asked for his name repetitively but he refused. And insisted I pay the service because he said customers left because of me. Extremely unprofessional and hostile behaviour. My friends that witnessed the incident and myself will never be coming back...

This is a satisfying Chinese restaurant serving large portions. If there was a 4.5 rating I would've gone for it, hence the 4 stars rating. The food is slightly twisted to suite local taste, nevertheless it taste much better than almost all the big names here in Istanbul, and for 20-25% less cost, it is a tough to beat deal. Last visit (May, 10, 2019) I paid 180TL for 4 persons and we took a lot of leftover boxes home with us. Never tried the Sushi in this restaurant so please do not quote me on it.
