Udupi Gardens on Kanakapura Road is a good restaurant. It deserves more than two stars, but I will come to that point. The food is very tast, fresh but the servings could be bigger.I had ordered 'kaali' dosa since it's usually soft. I was instead served crisp plain-dosa. I was too hungry to go and change it, and I also knew that the dosa I returned would be thrown away. So I are it patiently although the crispness made it so difficult to enjoy...it was cutting & sharp; but it did teach me patience! My hunger did not feel satisfied at all...
The self-service area is the most convenient. But waiting to hear that your order is ready is a little awkward since the space is also filled with tables and customers enjoying their self-service food. So you will have to wait a little far away and be on the alert.
The service area is quite big, although I never understood why many such restaurants feel that the seating needs to be sofa-type - heavy and immovable. Having separate, comfortable chairs will make the whole area much more spacious. I personally feel this area feels very congested, difficult to get in and out of the seats. You have to sit down and then move across.
We preferred waiting to eat in the self-service zone rather in this stuffy area - the self-service area is open and so much more breathing space.
There are some really nice self-service tables that are right outside - but you cannot sit there in summer or monsoon as there is no overhead canopy/shade.
So it remains un-utilised except in winters. Unless you want to sun-bathe or have a rainwater bathe!
The wash- basin area needs more work. A green, worn-out synthetic mat looks very unhygienic, especially since this wash area is right next to the self-service tables. The steel stand holding empty and used stinking water glasses is also right here.
The sink is often very clogged, very unpleasant to use before or after eating! The toilets are okay, but definitely need more maintenance and cleaning especially since this restaurant is very crowded, and is a halt for people leaving and entering Bangalore.
The area where chaats and juice is served: here is the main reason for the 2 Stars: the staff preparing the chaat do NOT wear gloves!
They pierce the puris with bare, ungloved WET thumbs before filling them with potato etc with bare hands.
We didn't feel like eating our sev puri after witnessing this. This is where you pick up self service chaats. Chaat Orders for the service area is also from here - just that customers can't see how their bhel puri or sev puris are prepared!
So the washbasin, the drinking water, and chaat-juice areas are the reason for the two stars. (2 stars)
If tackled immediately, this restaurant will be most enjoyable.
Let me end on a good note - the filter coffee is excellent, and until the areas I mentioned are cleaned up, I/we will certainly stop here for coffee each and every time I pass by... looking forward to visit again after the...
Read moreYesterday, I had the misfortune of dining at Udupi Garden, and I cannot find enough words to express my disgust and disappointment. It was, without a doubt, the worst dining experience of my life. And I must say, it was an absolute nightmare from start to finish.
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a strong and nauseating odour that seemed to permeate every inch of the establishment. It was clear that cleanliness was not a priority here. I walked in for dinner with my daughter past 10.30 pm and ordered a Veg fried rice and Ghee rice, which was the only food available on the menu as they were about to close.
As we were waiting for the food at the open kitchen (self-service) counter, I could see the chef preparing the food, the chef asked one of the "cleaners" who was mopping and cleaning the floor, to come and take out the rice from the wok as the quantity of the rice he added to the wok was wrong. To my surprise, the cleaner just left the mop and started to take out the rice with his filthy hands.
When I questioned this cleaner's act, the reply was even more shocking!!! "This is what you could expect when you walk in for dinner at the closing time"
Even though they prepared and brought new food, to make matters worse, my daughter found a hair in her plate halfway through the meal, which only served to confirm my suspicions about the restaurant's lack of cleanliness and attention to detail. At that point, we couldn't stomach another bite and left the food there and left.
In all my years of dining out, I have never encountered such a flagrant disregard for basic hygiene and food safety standards. It's clear that Udupi Garden has no intention of providing a pleasant dining experience for its customers. I strongly advise anyone considering dining here to think twice and choose a more reputable and clean establishment. Your health and taste buds deserve better than this abysmal excuse for...

We visited this restaurant twice during leisure drive to Kanakapura Road.
Its a relatively new restaurant, but so far everything is in order in terms of quality, taste and satisfaction. I feel that very soon this restaurant is going to attract many people as the management and staff seemed to be seasoned at the job.
Our favorite here are all South Indian dishes. We never miss 'Idli-Sambar Dip' with the extra helping of piping hot Udupi Sambar. Other dishes that we like are Masala Dosa, Khara Bhat and Ghee Roast. Once we tried Spring Dosa which also turned out to be delicious.
The restaurant has an outdoor 'self-service' area and an indoor 'serviced' area which is also airconditioned. The tables are close-by like any other restaurant hence the place turns noisy during peak hours.
They also have a party hall to organize events.
There is ample parking space here and there is always a security guard to help with parking.
Overall -- this is our place of choice when we want to do some leisure long drive and enjoy delicious food.
