On a recommendation of a work colleague I went to this cafe with my sister for lunch. Being of Italian origins we do have high standards when it comes to Italian food but I was expecting more for a cafe that is supposedly owned by an Italian.
The cafe is in a good position in the city with lots of parking (metered) at front. The cafe/restaurant is large, open and has a pleasant atmosphere. The flat screen tv's were playing a world cup match.
We tried the lunch buffet which seemed good value at AED 70 each. The penne pasta was far too dry, cold and oily. The lasagne had little meat and filled with far too much bechamel cream. The meat balls was made of extremely finely minced meat with little flavor. The salad was sparce and unlabeled soy sauce in the salad dressing bowl was a bit of shock when one was expecting to be adding balsamic vinegar.
I was particularly interested in sampling the Sicilian ricotta connoli as it's one of my most favorite food delights from Sicily but at AED 30 each I wouldn't buy it even "sì e fatto d'oro"
Overall very disappointing culinary experience. Non...
Read moreWe have gotten delivery from Dolci e Capricci and eaten there yesterday. On the delivery a couple of days ago, my husband had a tuna carpaccio, a burrata and a green salad. The Tuna Carpaccio was ok and the burrata nice. I had a pizza which had an amazing dough!! It was the seafood pizza and it also looked amazing and tasted very good, it was a little cold, but I guess that's the risk with delivery. I had a parmigiana as well which was very, very good. I ordered some cookies too which are delicious (on the Deliveroo menu it should be changed though: it says "assorted pastries", so I expected to get some cornetti and bignets and Krapfen, but it was only cookies. If I would have known, I would have ordered the pastries I wanted separately. Yesterday, my husband had the lamb and I had the eggplant gnocchi. The gnocchi were divine, but my husband's lamb was really not good. It was marinated in a strange sweet way which is maybe a matter of taste, but the meat was very, very dry. Plus, we had to wait ages for our food although it was not busy at all at that time. I will come back for...
Read moreCame here for dinner and had the buffalo mozzarella pizza, caponata, and bruschetta to share. The pizza had a nicely crisp crust with juicy topping. There was also complimentary bread which was very soft and fresh, even though we came at 10 pm. For dessert I had chocolate and vanilla profiteroles and my friends had the strawberry and pistachio granita and the krapfen. They have a huge selection of pastries and desserts that are really delicious! The granita is very special and the chocolate profiteroles had an especially good pastry cream inside. I am looking forward to going back for a traditional sicilian breakfast of granita...
