Heard about Kaatupasi on Air while driving my car......came home.....started searching about it in Google....read the reviews at 9 pm....thought of driving immediately from Discovery to Karama....as it is open till midnight.....but was held by my family members to try the lunch next day .....had a sleepless night....thinking about all the awesome reviews and how the food is going to be......next day was Sunday morning a day where non veg is mandatory in my menu.....plan was to have a hearty lunch.....bing came a message from my sons cricket academy that the training is preponed to 2pm which means I have to go by 1.30 pm to his training academy... the lunch time in Kaatupasi starts at 12.30 pm....so called their restaurant for a takeaway for kari sukka biryani, nalli biryani, mutton biryani, hunter meals (mutton varieties), gramathu kari kulambu and chicken 65......they told it will be ready within 20 minutes..... Drove all the way to the restaurant with 100 percent expectations......it was ready before I could reach them as they called and said its ready.......I rushed to the counter.....all the parcels were waiting with their paper handles ready to be wrapped around my hand ..... My eyes on it.......my nose smelling the amazing aroma of mutton and chicken ....ran towards my car as I have to drop my son at his training academy.... As I was driving my way to my sons cricket training academy....my 9 year old son from car back seat said ....I cannot resist anymore as the aroma.....has ignited my taste buds......I said ok then you start eating in the car itself.... Car zooming on Sheikh Zayed Road......mutton aroma in the car with ac in car at 18 degrees....lt was like mutton pieces were jumping here and there around my mouth.....eyes......my son took the first bite of kari sukka biryani and said yummy.....this is the best biryani I have ever had in my life.....car speed increased ...so that I can reach his training academy quickly.... Before he took the next bite.....he paused and said Papa......you are going to fall in love with it.. I wanted to fall in love with it immediately......but had no choice as I cannot stop the car in the middle of Sheikh Zayed Road and have it....its Dubai ....one has to strictly obey the rules..... Controlled my emotions and all my sense organs and drove carefully to his training academy and stopped my car at his training academy.......asked him to open the door and rush to his trainer as I got to do some Vettai (English Translation: Hunting) in the car......
Full platter of mutton and chicken 65 in front of me......looked at it with lots of love and said Aarambikalama (English Translation: Shall we start).......kept my hands on the little tender juicy pieces of mutton.....oh my God.....it was like Touching God's Master piece....my first bite.. reminded me of my first love......not my schooldays girlfriend...here I am referring to my first love with food......every bite of every dish made me deeply fall in love with it......now I am totally committed to Kaatupasi for my lifetime......hope it gives me the same excitement....as it gave me this time .....i went with 100 % expectations and came back with infinity% satisfaction.......I can't wait anymore......I want to eat...sleep and drink at Kaatupasi.....Today ......Tomorrow and Forever.........thanks a lot for making me fall in love with u......LOVE YOU KAATUPASI.....see u soon..... From a foodie who found his love after 14 years in Dubai......can't wait to see u again...awesome...

True to the phrase " Hidden Gem" in its literal sense this restaurant is situated in a dark quiet corner amidst the hustle bustle of an ever busy Karama area.
The decor is simple, cozy with a couple of rustic yellow lights, simple tables and chairs, portraits of South Indian heroes hogging their meal.
With nothing much to stay on the ambience and atmosphere of this tiny little joint, I'll straight get on to my reviews on the food itself.
In times when the word "Authentic" has lost its Authenticity with mean food bloggers favouring worthless restaurants and promoting foods from these worthless restaurants claiming to be traditional and authentic cuisine, this restaurant holds true to its essence as an Authentic South Indian Restaurant. My number of visits to this place is enough for me to write a detailed review of their À la carte items with a special mention of the lunch menus that are quite impressive with fancy names.
The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering dishes from the Thanjai and Madurai cuisine. I've tried and tasted their Gangster meal (Chicken speciality) which includes 6 different chicken sides and chicken curry. Each one is ambrosial and equally luscious. Their Hunter's Meal (Mutton speciality) is my personal favourite and I drool over its taste. Again here are 6 different mutton dishes which have the home made motherly touch in taste. They have Mutton Kola urundai( a little dry but flavorful), Nalli Masala(drool again), Mutton Gravy, Boti thokku, Mutton pepper fry and Mutton curry. Every time I order this meal they never fail to please me. A very scrumptious, flavourful and hearty meal. The taste reminds me of my late mother's preparation. May be that's why this meal is close to my heart. I am yet to try their seafood items. I am a person who will think twice about ordering seafood in restaurants. If that's done I'll write a separate review on those too. Their Dinner menu is quite simple with couple of Parotta varities and Dosas. Every time I try to Order Idli, I am unable to place my hands in it's due to its unavailability. May be it's a quick run out! Their Bun Parotta and Poricha Parotta is a must try there. I haven't tasted their dinner combos yet. Coming to the dessert, though they have a handful of Authentic drinks like Jigarthanda and Nannaari Sarbath, I always end up ordering their unique but flavorful Coconut ice-cream. This ice-cream is creamy, soothing with the fullness and richness of coconut milk. Again a must try there. The reduction of .5 in their rating is due to the ambiance and stuffiness you feel there with one table facing the wash area. Other than this meagre hitch in the ambience, there is no other quibble or cries with this restaurant. It's among the top five Restaurant in my favourite list.
This small cozy restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, and wonderful dessert. A special mention about the ever smiling young entrepreneur (owner) Mrs. Tamizh Arasi. We should really learn hospitality from her. She's so patient while customers have any concerns and assures with most down to earth responses. I strongly recommend this Restaurant to everyone who'll miss their home food! I would like to come back here...
Read moreKaatupasi Restaurant - Our Sunday was perfect with home-cooked meals. There was a similar feeling to the hotels in Madurai that we used to visit back home, but in a more modern way.
Excellent welcome. Owner of restaurant stands at counter. Therefore, we received a soft placement. The menu is quite impressive and well selected items that will leave one with a sense of taste. We ordered Mutton & Chicken Biryani (Seeraga Samba Rice). I've always been a Rice Priyan. I reviewed the non-vegetarian meal menu. It offered a variety of meals as well. Ordered Fish Option Meals. In Chennai, I had the opportunity to travel to various states and taste a variety of foods. To me, it smelled and tasted the same.
In addition, my younger son has a special need. He doesn't eat in hotels. He ate only the food he received from his mother, and if he liked it, he continued to eat it. Otherwise, he would have forced us out. I was pleased to see he was able to taste both types of Biryani here.
"Kaatupasi Restaurant" is highly recommended, and I have already referred it to all my friends. It is recommended that readers visit and taste Indian traditional food. My words above are purely...
