The Vietnamese Snack Food CafĂ© is a newly opened, Thumbelina sized restaurant in Cluster Q of JLT. It brings to three the number of Vietnamese restaurants in the JLT clusters. Does that mean Vietnamese is becoming the next culinary trend? If yes, good for us. Perhaps in an effort to establish its authenticity, every single person working at this miniscule eatery is Vietnamese â chefs, staff, everyone. Indoor dining space is limited, giving cosy a whole new meaning. There is an outdoor dining area but realistically itâs pretty much irrelevant from now till October.
VSFCâs menu is short and sweet and covers most of the favourites. My family and I stuck to dishes we know ordering a couple of starters and soup bowls of Pho and Bun Mang Vit for our mains. The Gá»i cuá»n, Vietnamese cold rolls, were a disappointment mainly because the opaque rice paper wrappers (bĂĄnh trĂĄng) were so sticky. Sadly, the Cha Gio crispy spring rolls were no better, suffering from a stuffing which was tasteless.
The Pho and Bun Mang Vit however were right on the money. My son ordered beef and the girls ordered chicken. I preferred my sonâs beef pho by far. Bun Mang Vit is a rice vermicelli duck noodle soup with bamboo shoot. If you like the taste of bamboo I strongly recommend you try this hugely flavoursome soup. VSFCâs is superb. But our favouite dish of the meal was their outstanding CÆĄm Ga Hoi An or Hoi An Chicken Rice. Itâs similar to Hainanese chicken rice with one main difference, the chicken here is grilled rather than poached. VSFC simply has this dish nailed. We also had the delicious stir-fried water spinach with garlic (Rau muá»ng xĂ o tá»i).
I found the staff at Vietnamese Snack Food Café friendly, attentive and accommodating. The young lady looking after our table did a splendid job.
My family and I are diehard Vietnamese Foodies fans, so I knew looking objectively at any new Vietnamese restaurant was always going to be fraught with bias. As expected, all three of them said they liked the food (minus the cold and spring rolls) but preferred Lilyâs restaurant in Cluster D. I agree with them about the starters but feel this new venue has its own unique strengths. It may not be as well rounded as Vietnamese Foodies or even JLT veteran Hanoi Naturally, but I still think itâs well worth a visit⊠especially for its amazing CÆĄm Ga Hoi An and Bun Mang Vit.

Read moreOh such a sweet little place this was! I ordered spicy chicken with lemongrass, which went so well with the sticky rice. I opted for medium spicy, which was just right and not too spicy. The fresh lemongrass flavour felt so refreshing mixed in with the sizzling chicken, tender, juicy and yum. The staff was pretty helpful, helping me decide what to pick. I had the fiercely strong Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk and boy it was strong! I had it iced due to the summer heat. I spent quite some time at the restaurant savouring my food and enjoying my coffee. The service was quick too. The overall ambience was homely, with some Vietpop in the background. I left for home satisfied, refreshed and delighted that I had decided to try (and was thoroughly happy) Vietnamese cuisine...
Read moreHere its the place for dine in only not for take away. i ordered Vietnamese noodles. It tastes correct. Nothing to complain for my side. However, my bf ordered gyoza. The filling is still cold inside. I asked the staff to reheat it again. anyway the taste of gyoza is bland. I dont recommend to order all dimsums, dumplings since its a frozen and reheat. The noodles are good though. Its also quite warm in the restaurant. There is only one person who work thats why the service is slow and what i noticed for the take away they dont pack it correctly and the quantity its different. If you want to eat here just come for dine in and order only noodles.
The staff is nice and polite though. i just wanted to raise the issue to the manager or the owner so they...
