We have just been here for dinner expecting a nice roast in a small pub. Complete opposite! The pub was empty and we were the only ones there. Out little one has kids sausages mash & beans, that meal was fine We then had the Brie bites, the very chunky which was good, but they were cold and not melted inside which was disappointing. I mentioned it to the waitress when she came to clear the plates. I had ordered giant roast (3 meats I chose were chicken, beef and lamb) in a giant Yorkshire pudding. My partner had the burger.
My veg arrived at the table first in a dish and it was steaming. Then my roast come out and as it was served to me she said well had run out of big Yorkshire’s and so I was given 2 smaller ones instead. The beef was mediocre, but I cut into the chicken and it was stone cold. I told the waitress who said she would swap it and then a new bit of chicken and out on my plate that was hot, but it was only half a breast ! So no idea where the other half went ! The roast potatoes were also cold to touch in the middle and when I complained about them she sent the chef out mid dinner who proceeded to tell me that they serve at room temperature. When I said that isn’t right she was trying to argue. I gave her one of my roast potatoes in a tissue and told her to feel how cold it was. She disagreed. I didn’t finish the meat or roast potatoes. I only ate the veg. My partners burger was also very dry.
So the waitress has now brought the bill without us asking for it. Ushering us to leave. I said to her that i am not paying for the roast as it was cold and I didn’t eat it but I would begrudgingly pay for everything else. She then went to get the chef. The chef comes out and refuses to give a refund as I had ate ‘half my meal’. But I had only eaten the veg. I said I’m not happy so do not want to pay for my meal and she said I should have refused to eat any of it otherwise I can’t have any refund. She said mid sentence she would take off the 2x Brie starters if I paid for the roast. As I said it is still unacceptable she the service was appalling, as she only wanted to argue she then went back on her word. In the end, they took 1 starter off the bill (£8) instead of my £17.50 roast. It was accept that or sit there the whole night arguing. She only said she could take the £8 off if I didn’t leave a review! This just shows she knows how bad it is, but didn’t want to admit it. She also said that they don’t normally serve after 4pm so whatever is left in the kitchen at that point is what’s left. But when I phoned earlier in the day to book a 4pm table there was no mention of this. What pub shuts at 4pm on a Sunday that serves roast dinners ? I would avoid at all costs ! food awful and extremely poor...
Read more3rd attempt at visiting for Sunday roast as it was recommended so very good , our table wasn't ready when we arrived and told the people on it where just finishing their pudding. 10 minutes later their pudding was served to them they hadn't even had it yet. Got seated at 4.35 the 2 youngest where already fed up but we ordered our food before the table was ready so we just had to wait. Food arrived 15 minutes later then 2 to 3 minutes later we had a quality check and then we said everything was ok as we hadn't had chance to tuck in. Discovered that mine and my daughters land was really fatty , I expect a bit but not this much. One whole slice of hers was pure fat so why was it even served 🤔? I picked some meat of one of my slices and the 2nd I couldn't even cut it was so fatty so left it. Couldn't get the attention of staff as it was busy and I don't appreciate having to leave my table at dinner to find a member of staff so waited until afterwards as did another table over the other side of the restaurant. The staff member was very rude to the lady over their because she had the same thing happen and the approach from the member of staff was very harsh and very rude. She had the same response towards me when I said about the meat and then another lady came over and asked about it and apologised but didn't offer any goodwill. Shame we were just about to try dessert but didn't want to spend another £50 after that very poor customer service. I have worked in and cooked in many restaurants my entire life and never in a million years would I have served that meat nor spoken to customers that way . Such a shame . We won't be returning. My guess is our recommendation was from when previous owners where...
Read moreA nice cosy and friendly place, with good atmosphere, great service but food let's it down a bit. My daughter took me there for dinner. She booked it her self (she's 9) and the staff handled her call really well and when we arrived for our meal they played along with her being "grown up". We were shown to our table in the cosy and well decorated dining area. It's themed like a country pub, the decor is fresh and looks clean and inviting. The service was first class, attentive waitress who took our order after helping my daughter choose. They were happy to serve a starter set up as a main for my daughter who didn't want to go for the children's menu. The food arrived quickly, we started with the Nacho's to share, we went for the large and struggled to get through the portion. They were good, plenty of cheese, guacamole and salsa. It was the main course that disappointed slightly. We both ordered the ribs, my new came with chips and salad, my daughter substituted for a baked potato. The ribs themselves were unremarkable. The sauce seemed to be a commercially made packet sauce. The accompanying chips were obviously frozen chips. It was ok, but not what I expected and about 20% overpriced for the quality. This by no means ruined our night as the service and ambience made up for it, but this could be a fantastic place if the food was upscaled from the Iceland freezer, which unfortunately is...
