Usually I have no complaints about Wagamama but I didn't really enjoy my last experience at the Ashford Restaurant.
I ordered Yasai Gyoza and they came over cooked and what appears to be deep fried. They were beyond crispy, very hard, and the wrong texture for a gyoza. That's not how they are described on the menu. Usually the inside tastes fresh and you can distinguish the fillings however the ones I had just had complete mush inside as they had been completely overcooked. I sent my first set back and asked for them to be redone. They came back exactly the same as before. Inedible.
The wait staff were really nice about it, but as I was sat right next to the kitchen. I could hear what the chefs said about me when they took them back. Faces were made, and they expressed quite firmly that there was nothing wrong with the Gyoza. This made be feel quite uncomfortable.
As you can see from the pictures they were completely overcooked. The menu picture (left) obviously shows pan fried, steamed Gyoza. The ones I received were deep fried and overcooked (right).
The rest of my meal was fine, it was tasty but the curry sauce on my main was a little watery, and my partner did enjoy his meal however his katsu chicken was again a little overcooked.
Its a shame because it soured my evening a little but the staff I dealt with were very nice and understanding.
What I hope from this review is that the chef in question reviews how they cook their gyoza and takes my feedback onboard without getting defensive or offended like they did when I was...
Read moreOH MY GOD. We just moved in yesterday and was too tired to unpack and try to find my cooking stuff and food so my mum suggested going to wagamama. As a vegan I was pondering wether to have my usual yasai itame or the new highly debatable seitan curry- vegatsu though I don't like seitan I like trying new things. WELL. When I got there my dad looked at the menu, adjusted his glasses, looked up at me and said, you know there's a yasai katsu curry on here right? YOU WHAT? I adjusted my hearing aids. Looking at the vegan menu (that has a lot more options that the vegetarian menu- ha- ha vegetarians you're SO last year!) There was the katsu curry I crave, the one I had as a vegetarian!! It was sitting on the menu, saying yes, I'm back on the menu, as a vegan option, and I'm literally a 5 minute drive away from your new house... HOW CAN I NOT GO TO WAGAMAMA EVERYDAY? No seriously if anyone has any suggestions I'd much appreciate them. Anyway, the taste was absolutely DIVINE. No different from the vegetarian one (it's gone from the vegetarian menu and no wonder why if you can make it vegan and taste the same!) I savoured every morsel it was delicious! Highly recommend!!!! Also I ordered a mini one for my toddler who loves it, with sweet sauce instead of curry sauce. Pic attached. And no I didn't take a pic of my meal I ate too...
Read moreGroup of 5, Tuesday evening approx 6 pm. Although the restaurant was busy, a space was created for us at short notice and we were made to feel welcomed. Matt, our designated member of staff was fantastic, helpful and patient. One order (we had several orders) was very late, others in the group had already eaten. The staff escalated this to the kitchen, the meal was prepared freshly and was ready in 10 mins, the staff apologised for the mix up, took the price of this late meal and 2 sides off the bill as a gesture of goodwill. I am sorry I didn't get the names of all the staff. This team is a great example of customer service. Well done. The reason for not giving 5 for Food - the gyozas were not that great in taste we had chicken and duck gyozas. They were fine as a sharing snack. And, Atmosphere - the whole restaurant was quite noisy and it was difficult to hear staff clearly. This is not a major issue, just be mindful of customers who are hard of hearing, which can be a strain. Cannot fault the staff,...
