Stopped here for dinner while out on a day trip in Basingstoke for Comic Con. I'm a coeliac vegetarian so options can be tricky for me but we have a Cosy Club where I live so knew we'd be safe here. And I was...but the food was deeply disappointing.
First of all, even though the vegan Beyond Burger IS gluten free, and our local Cosy Club is absolutely fine with letting me substitute it for the meat burger on the GF menu, this branch refused. I was disappointed because it's really the only meal I like there that isn't a breakfast but I wasn't about to make a fuss and just had something else instead. No big deal.
When our food arrived, I'd ordered 'twice roasted new potatoes' with a little cheese on. When they arrived they were just plain boiled potatoes with a little cheese. Very confused, I mentioned it to the server, who took them away and about 5 minutes later brought back...well, the same thing but with more cheese on. Roast potatoes...we know what they are, right? Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside? These were just new potatoes. Maybe they had been roasted but there was nothing crisp or fluffy about them. They were just...potatoes.
The risotto I ordered was okay but it arrived barely lukewarm. I HATE making a fuss. It's embarrassing and I'd rather just put up with it. I wasn't about to go back anyway. But our friend raised it all because he was cross on my behalf and with his own meal being cold as well. We'd paid for it in advance so the manager said there was nothing he could do (is there an option where you DON'T pay in advance??) and comped us one free dessert for both of our cold meals, so we shared a brownie.
The servers were lovely, I have to say that. And the managers (male and female) were very nice. But one dessert for two cold meals and falsely advertised potatoes was not enough to make up for it all because Cosy Club IS pricey and you expect hot food that matches the description on the menu.
Lesson learned - stick with my local branch and find somewhere else next time we go to Basingstoke. But, reading this review, I'm sure the staff would...
Read moreA night out for four mums of teenage daughters. We were hoping for a super chilled out night filled with good food and some wine. The evening started well with a bottle of prosecco and lots to chat about. We then ordered two shared small plates and a main each. I ordered the harissa lamb shoulder, there were two green risottos and a salmon fishcakes ordered. My lamb was delicious, fell apart and the flavours of the food was magnificent. The fishcakes received an equally rave review. Sadly the green risotto was referred to as pea and mint with a hint of risotto. Disappointing. When we finished our mains, our plates were taken away...at 9.55pm. We asked for the dessert menu and were informed that the kitchen was now closed. I said 'I hope it isn't, as we should have been informed that it was closing soon and we could have ordered our desserts'. Our waitress went to enquire and returned to say it was still open. After 10minutes of waiting for any service to order our dessert, we finally engaged with a staff member. We were told that the kitchen was closed....by this point, non of us were impressed. She checked and then informed us that it was open, but we could not have the apple tart, this was the dessert that all four of us wanted. When asked why, the manager came over and informed us that the ovens had been turned off and it would take 20minutes to reheat them. We were all offered a free dessert. Two Lemon possets and a chocolate brownie. I no longer wanted a dessert, nor did I want to free glass of prosecco being offered. Apologies were handed out left, right and centre...but sadly, it had put a dampner on the evening. When the desserts came....they rolled up the shutter and dinged the bell 'service' and then dropped the lemon posset on the table tipping out half the contents. We then couldn't breath for insanity of the evening... Cosy Club...staff training, communicatio and remember, without the paying customer...there is...
Read moreSaturday, 1st of April 2023, April Fools day, the day when nothing is to be believed and everything has to be a form of boring, tedious practical joke. Something, I can say with Certain Impunity is NOT how I would describe my visit to The Cosy Club, that wonderful Saturday afternoon, Upon arrival, it was discovered we were able to claim the last table in the house and were seated with expediency and courtesy, even taking a brief moment to enquire as to our dietary requirements and/or restrictions, showing a level of care rarely found in such an industry as of late.
The Waitress for myself and my companion, with a smile on her face, was Jazmin, Asked us if we were not only comfortable but also meticulously ensured that our order was exactly as it was described and made sure to take note of every detail, and all without breaking the genuine sense of service and hospitality portrayed on their face. Although Jazmin was our waitress, another wonderful staff member, Alice, brought us our food, even asking if we'd like any extra condiments or table wares.
This was my FIRST ever time dining in any Restaurant of Cosy Club, it most certainly won't be my last... The Food was cooked beautifully, the House Burger I'd ordered with cheese was like a tapestry of perfectly cooked beef, painted delicately in cheddar cheese to give a well presented and immensely tasty dish with fries on the side.
Between the Hosting staff, upon our first entry, to Jazmin and Alice, the Kitchen and the Chef(s) who crafted, cooked and presented our meals with passion & elegance. I want to thank each and every member of staff for making my first visit truly memorable, on such a memorable day, and to also thank those who also dined on that day, such a pleasant atmosphere was a delight to enjoy. I shall return to Cosy Club again soon,...
