Vemillion — Restaurant in Basingstoke and Deane

Let me tell you about my 10 STAR experience with this place yesterday. I phoned in my order while 20 min away while driving to catch my flight. The woman I spoke with was lovely and understanding and by the time I got into the cafe to collect my order, the food was ready. They have a lot of vegan pastries, more than I've seen anywhere else after over 2 weeks of traveling through the UK. I added a bunch to my order. The staff were absolutely LOVELY, so kind and helpful. The food was AMAZING!!!! My toddler devoured her waffle, and the way they packed it was incredible. with all the toppings in separate containers, including the syrup. They did not skimp on the toppings, there was SO MUCH! Ordered the bourbon brownie and the carrot and pistachio cake to take away. They both looked great, and the prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent to begin with, however a different server took over from the previous, and started serving the person behind me, (I think they were staff) before finishing serving me, which I found a little rude, but not a major issue. They were the only other person behind me too, there was no queue. Having tried the cakes, I have to ask: what on earth is that synthetic birthday cake icing on the carrot cake? It's a shame, the sponge itself is moist and sweet enough to not even require it, but I could not finish it due to the amount of icing on top. Let me start off and say we are not vegans, not even vegetarians, but decided to try Vermillion.

Mum chose the cheese and ba'con pastry and I went for the peppered steak slice. Mum absolutely loved her pastry and gave both thumbs up. My steak slice was amazing! The "steak" was perfectly flavoured and, more importantly, textured that I actually thought it was real meat but without the gristle and gelatinous bits you get with the cheap steak in non -vegan slices. The pastry was perfect and the level of pepper was spot on.

To drink we had the oat milk iced lattes that hit the spot (I had honeycomb flavour in mine - delicious!) and we had to take half our pudding home as we were stuffed... salted caramel tarts. OMG these are divine and taste very expensive.
