It's a lovely hotel but not easy to access. Small amount of parking at the rear entrance, tho there is plenty of parking in the pay n display. Too many steps whether u enter thru the front or rear of the hotel. No disabled access ramps and a large step to the ground floor accommodation. U can take dogs at £10 per dog per night charge. And the rooms designated dog friendly look a little tired and could do with a revamp. Especially the bathroom. No grab rails. So if u have mobility probs, try somewhere else. But for everyone else, it's in the town and has easy access to shops and other amenities. There are no leisure facilities, but free access to a local gym (no pool). The staff at the hotel are lovely and friendly and eager to make sure ur stay is as pleasant as possible. The breakfast is plentiful and u can choose to eat in the restaurant or in ur room. As a best western hotel it's disappointing that they haven't joined the 21st century and sorted out the needs for those less abled. As u can see by the photo, the rear entrance is rather difficult to negotiate.

I write this review after my third stay in 5 months. If you have cause to stay in the area then I'd recommend it. The hotel is clean and pleasant, a good variety of food to choose from if you eat in the restaurant ranging in price from cheap light bites to £15 mains and everything in between. All meals I've been served on my stays have been to a good tasty standard with generous portions. The breakfast is the usual continental/ full English options in a buffet style. I have stayed in room 204 each time which is spacious and in the older part of the building and overlooks the street and square to the front of the hotel. There is limited free parking on the hotels courtyards otherwise parking is in the adjoining pay and display at the rear. Worksop is a typical ex miners working men's town and not so blessed with tourist attractions but offers a good central base from which to explore the local area, Notts, Derbyshire and Yorkshire. The staff, like the locals are polite, down to earth and friendly. I'm sure I'll be back to stay at some point in the future.

Stayed here for a couple of nights pre pandemic. Room was great, absolutely massive and corner bath was a nice surprise. I paid slightly more for a named suite (executive suite) but I feel the extra £10ish was worth it. Reception was lovely and it was a breeze booking in. I've knocked a star off because the mini fridge didn't work, the room a bit dated and there was no way to control the heat (I felt it was cold).

The venue is nice. The rooms are good, the restaurant was good. The place is a nice hotel. It wasn't cheap (but wasn't expensive). The 2 issues for me were;

  1. the staff. I found them abrupt and almost rude. At dinner, we went to the bar to pay and the girl told us to come 'round to the other side to pay. It was 1 metre from where we were, no closer to the till and no easier for her to take our payment. When we arrived, the receptionist told us bluntly she couldn't check us it and to go to the bar. I understand we were early and some rooms were probably not ready. That said, we were there at 1.50pm, that's 10 mins early! She didn't tell us when we could check in or show any sympathy or courtesy. While sat I the lounge, I googled check in time and realised I was only 10 mins early.

The bar was the same. The guy at the bar corrected us when we asked for our drinks (branding etc) which is fine, but did it in a way that made us sound like idiots. When paying for our meal at the bar, the girl asked us to move around the bar to pay. The new location was maybe 1 metre away from where we were stood and made no difference to how we paid. Just being awkward for the sake of it?

All in all, very poor customer service but a nice hotel.

  1. The room had a pretty strong smell. Maybe mold or damp mixed with paint? I'm not sure but it was strong enough for it not to have gone unnoticed by the staff. Any staff would have been well aware. I didn't mention it, i was only there 1 night and check in demonstrated there was little or no point mentioning this to them.

That aside, the room was clean and a good size.

There was a fair bit of noise from the street outside from the open window when I arrived, no doubt trying to...

I like to take my "Friendly Circle" Ladies out now and again, and as today, 11th of Nov would have been Kate's 99th birthday had she not passed away in March of this year, I decided to take them for afternoon tea at The Best Western Lion Hotel Worksop. As I had ordered the top range @ £11.50 per head for 12 people, we were very disappointed at the lack of quality food we were served. There was plenty to eat but the bread was too thick and dry, though the fillings were quite tasty. The sausage rolls were hard and would have been better warmed. The quiche was delicious though, as was the chocolate brownies but the so-called scones with jam, cream, and strawberries looked very nice but the scone base was totally inedible. Hard, tasteless awful! We scraped the jam cream and strawberries off and put them onto the chocolate brownies. When I told one member of staff about the scones they went to the kitchen to tell the chef who sent them back saying, he had fresh ones in the kitchen if we wanted them. By this time, we had eaten enough and refused the offer, but if he had fresh scones why did they give us stale ones??? The meal came with as much tea or coffee as we wanted, but the staff only came into the room once to ask if we wanted a second cup. When some wanted another cup to wash the dry food down with I had to go into the kitchen to ask for some. If I had to give the whole thing marks out of 10 I am afraid it would have to be a very poor 5, and that is being on the soft side. I did tell the person on reception when I paid the bill, she was sypathetic, but did not offer any discount. As OAP’s we are loath to complain, we just usualy let our feet do the talking. Needless to say we will not be going...

We booked in here on Saturday 12th October and from the moment we walked in the Hotel receptionist was friendly,helpful and a lovely welcoming smile.The room was very spacious and clean and the bathroom was massive with a bath too which was a lovely addition.There was also a strange triangle walk in cupboard with nothing in it,we were almost afraid to walk in it in case we were transformed to Narnia,it was almost quite magical.... The bed was super comfy and although we did have a slight problem with the tv,this was sorted super quick. The staff were really friendly and polite and although i did'nt eat in the resturant in the evening my partner did and although 2 of the starters was not available( it was nearly 9.00 and the kitchen was closing),the staff it their upmost to provide him with a alternative which he assures me was delicious. I don't sleep too well and kept bobbing down for a cigarette,which i could have in the court yard.One slight suggestion that maybe you put a small light over the ashtray on the wall as i did'nt know it was there till it started getting light. The young man on duty was helpful even fetching me 3 different size jugs for me to have extra milk in,nothing was too much trouble for him and again so friendly and polite,he definition deserve some recognition for the professional way he does his job. Breakfast was a very quick service and the egg Benedict was to die for.My partner had the 3 egg omelette which was massive and very very tasty. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend a stay here,the staff are definitely are credit to the hotel,we will definitely staying again.Thank you for a...
