UPDATE -September 2023. Very busy - Thursday. Bogof burger night. Steak flatbread med rare very well cooked . Nicely pink. Lovely bread. Burgers - cheese + cheese + bacon - Onion rings, slightly undercooked. Burger nice, good size. Brioche burger slightly underwhelming. WOULD recommend despite these very slight niggles.
Waiting on staff - Claire - excellent manners, good sense of timing. Either well trained or naturally very good. Absolute gold in a place like this. Unfazed by the overwhelming busy shift ahead of her. Pleasant , happy in her work ( or seemed to be !) Not stressed & dealing admirably with customers.
Go here. It's loud when it's busy. But it's worth it.
Summer (May)2023 - 'bogof' breakfast - Standard @£4.99. XL even at £7.49 was slightly "Meh !" Xl- @£7.49 - 3 Undercooked tasteless bacon rashers . 2 cheap sausages. 2 Greasy fried eggs. It could have been the greasy bacon, or the oil/ butter (?) in the mushrooms, but our Plates were swimming in oil. Not very appetising. 3 huge hash browns !!( Well it was XL !) Seemed extreme. Nice bread/toast. Staff pleasant & chirpy. Clean & friendly pub. . Nb- Ladies loos, 1 was locked,(not working) 1 was blocked & 1had no toilet roll.
Summer 2022 - Warm inside & out. Dealing with it admirably. Friendly helpful, knowledgeable staff. Ordered the Steak Fondue challenge. Ordered Med Rare - but came well done. Chips had seen more service than I have & were reheated + the potato skins, again had been recooked. Maybe it was pre cooking popular items because of the mad hot weather to prevent over heating of kitchen staff. But it wasn't really a good option at £20+ However, the staff reaction upon making them aware was admirable .. apology, + offer of replacement, or a free drink for both of us. More refreshing than the beer I was drinking , which was good. Recommended. Good varied food menu. Daily deals most days. Not too busy, even in this weather, albeit a...
Read moreA disappointing end to what would have been a great outing. Specifically chose to visited this pub today with our 2 kids for the wacky warehouse. Due to the children needing full supervision at all times we decided to let them play in the play area AFTER their meal. At 6:15pm we entered the play area and was turned away and told last entry was 6pm (despite the play area having no kids currently playing on it and only 1 family sat down eating) I asked why this is because it is advertised that the play area is open until 7pm. I said I’m still happy to pay the full amount even though I’m not receiving the full play time. I was then told we weren’t allowed because the soft play has already been cleaned down. Why is this? If you advertise the play area to be open until 7pm then why did you clean down nearly a full hour earlier ?? If this is the case then the play area times should be changed! I spoke with the floor manager after and explained the situation and he said he would speak with the lady in charge of the soft play at that time. He came back a few minutes later and agreed with the lady by saying she’s cleaned it down now so no more children are allowed on. Again, it is 45 minutes before the scheduled close time for this play area!
This is not a great start considering it is my first time visiting this pub.
The food was great, but due to the poor handling of the play situation I can’t imagine I will return here again. What a disappointing end to our...
Read moreLove visiting the Romans rest for lunch and a play in the wacky warehouse. Food is great and a good price, my nephew Freddie loves a kids fry up and eats it all everytime. It's a great place to come on a rainy day to get energy out of the kids. Jess is especially lovely and is always working hard, service with a smile and is friendly and approachable. The Chef Luke also made special effort to make my mum a meal as she was on a special diet which eliminated a lot of food as she was having tests at the hospital, which was so kind of him as it meant she was able to eat something for lunch with us.
The play area is great and Jess is always working hard to keep it clean and sanitary. The only thing that worries me is the carpet in the playarea is old and has stains on it, and I'm worried how well it can be cleaned with it being carpet. A wipeable floor would be much better and more hygienic and make the whole place look better. With the recent pandemic it's important to maintain hygiene standards and keep things sanitary. I dont feel I can award 5 stars because of this, and am constantly applying hand sanitiser to the kids hands due...
