PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE. Another bad experience at A Chef and Brewer. I would give this a 0 star if I could. Booked a 1pm table (on Mothers Day), to take my 89 year old (wheelchair bound) Mum out for a roast. We were met in a friendly way but downhill all the way after that. Had to wait 30 minutes for our starters and the squid was so rubbery it was vile. Also tried to push a third starter on us when we only ordered 2. Had to wait a further 1 hour and 20 minutes, so we asked to speak to the Manager who apologised and said they had run out of cutlery and he was learning as it was only his 5th day. So after a 1 hour and 30 minute wait, our roasts eventually came out. The turkey was raw, the pig in blanket had burnt bacon and the sausage was raw in the middle. The Yorkshire pudding was cold, rubbery but raw and runny in the middle. Roast potatoes were just raw potatoes that had been dunked in oil. Vegetables cold. A little jug of gravy each that was so thick and solid, we needed knives to remove it out of the jugs - lifting the jug upside down didn’t shift it. We asked to speak to the Manager and we told him we couldn’t eat our food and would not be paying. He agreed and put £0 to pay on the bill. We rang back when we got home and The Manager also refunded our £15 deposit and apologised again and was embarrassed. The Feathers used to be such a lovely place with good food and family atmosphere but has clearly been run into the ground by Chef and Brewer and is an absolute utter disgrace. The customer service and food is unbelievably appalling. Extremely disappointing and we will continue to share our terrible experience and do not aim to return to The Feathers or any Chef and Brewer. Hope nobody came down with food poisoning. There were several very angry customers and I’m sure it spoilt Mothers Day for many Mums, my own...
Read moreDuring our first visit to the pub, we were fortunate enough to have the pleasure of being assisted by a truly exceptional waitress Cortney went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable.
From the moment we sat down, it was clear that she was not only knowledgeable about the menu, but also had a genuine passion for ensuring her guests had an outstanding experience. She took the time to explain various dishes, highlighting their unique flavors and ingredients, which greatly assisted us in making our selections.
Her friendly demeanor and warm smile immediately put us at ease. It was evident that she genuinely cared about our satisfaction and was more than willing to accommodate any special requests or dietary preferences we had.
Throughout the meal, she checked in on us at just the right intervals, ensuring we had everything we needed without ever feeling intrusive. Her attentiveness was a perfect balance, and it was evident that she had a keen understanding of when to offer assistance and when to allow us to enjoy our meal in peace.
Her suggestions turned out to be spot-on; every dish she recommended was a delight. It's clear that she not only knows the menu inside out, but also has a refined palate that enables her to make tailored recommendations.
In addition to her impeccable service, she radiated positivity and created a welcoming atmosphere. It's rare to encounter someone who genuinely seems to love what they do, and it was evident that she takes great pride in providing exceptional service.
In short, our experience at the pub was elevated thanks to the outstanding service provided by this exceptional waitress. She set a high standard for service, and we look forward to returning to the pub knowing that we'll be in excellent hands. Kudos to her for making our first visit...
Read moreUsed to be a really nice place but since becoming a Chef & Brewer its gone downhill massively.
Attempted to book a table online for fathers day but the system would not accept the booking despite showing lots of availability. Called to make the booking but could only get voicemail and the promise of a call back which never materialised.
As we wanted a table at 15:30 we thought we would just drop in as not likely to be busy at that time on fathers day. Upon arrival told that they were fully booked and could not be seated anywhere despite only around 1/3 of the tables having anyone sat at!
I looked to book online again and asked for one of the many tables that were available at a range of times from 15:45 onwards only to be told that if I book any of those the staff on site will cancel the booking.
As I said, used to be a great place until Chef & Brewer took over, now they have minimal staff who are simply not interested in providing much in terms of customer experience and service.
Edit: Yes booking in advance is generally what we do but we had last minute change of plans and your online table booking system showed plenty of availability as did the mostly empty bar and restaurant. To be told by staff on site that if I booked a table online they would cancel it for me is pitiful. Your response speaks volumes 👏 👏
In fairness we did not eat on this visit as we could not see at any of the very many empty tables so was unfair to leave a 1* for the food. On many previous visits the food has been good so I'll give you...
