The Hoose Bistro
In December we had organised a Christmas party for around thirty people at this East Belfast venue and we were very impressed with their menu. The night was a great success, and our party thoroughly enjoyed the good food, attentive service and welcoming atmosphere. So on a chilly Thursday in January, we thought we’d walk down to this Bistro for a quieter evening meal.
We were welcomed by Ross, our waiter from our Christmas night out, and he showed us to an upstairs window table. We could choose from the a la carte menu or a 2 course special set at £16.95. Although licensed, The Hoose is more than happy for you to BYOB, charging £2.50 pp corkage (beer and wine only.)
From the 2 course menu we chose;
Starters Bread and tapenade: a generous selection of ‘artisanal’ style bakes with accompaniments, the star being a delicious Thai style dipping oil. The olives were a little underwhelming, however - a bit like the ones in a jar used to garnish a martini. -Goats cheese: a wheel of tangy cheese, coated in crushed nuts and served warm on a chicory leaf salad - lovely!
Mains -Seabass: this was served on a chowder which had chorizo in it so we asked if they could swap the chowder for something else. The chef suggested the sun dried tomato cream which was delicious and complemented the seabass perfectly.
The decor in the Hoose Bistro has a plush “French” ambience, with appropriate lighting and some local artwork on the walls. The staff are knowledgable and helpful.
It is very apparent that The Hoose has quite a few regular patrons: that’s a good sign, and we will certainly be visiting again very soon.

Read moreFirst time eating we entered was greated nicely, due to masks not sure he understood I had reservation not his fault. Waited a bit for everything but they were busy understandable. Ordered the turkey an ham carvery dinner. Beautiful presentation! Only disappointment was it had cranberry stuffing that wasn't stated on the menu, tried it anyway but not for me. My OH mash had lumps an roastie undercooked felt too bad to complain. Most annoying part was a lady came over to talk to the table beside us an she stood in between our table an hers with her bum towards us, the place is small so I was almost gonna say something but I just asked for the bill an left. No offence to the hoose it's a lovely spot but too small for me maybe upstairs is bigger not sure but I won't be...
Read moreVisited The Hoose for Mother's Day meal, very first time.....have to say, very impressed!! After a mix up with the booking, the waitress found us a table upstairs! Liked the ambience of the place, with music playing. The Menu choices were excellent, as was the wine. After ordering the Turkey/Ham roast, with trimmings, the wait time was definitely worth it. Our dinners arrived piping hot and Very well cooked and the portion sizes were very generous. I opted for the strawberry cheesecake with two spoons, as I was full. £18 for two courses was very reasonable, for quality and content! Big shout for Ross who looked after us, excellent service and a real nice guy! Well recommended and we...
