We recently dined at Desi Dera in Birmingham from London , and it was a delightful experience! The restaurant offers a warm, welcoming ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home. The place is impeccably clean, and the aroma of freshly cooked desi food fills the air, making you hungry even before you start eating.
One minor issue is parking, but that’s easily overlooked once you step inside. The quality of the food is outstanding—freshly prepared, fragrant, and beautifully presented. Every dish reflects the effort and attention to detail that goes into making the meal a memorable experience.
The staff deserves special praise; they are courteous, attentive, and genuinely make you feel comfortable. The crowd is diverse, with people of all backgrounds enjoying their meals, which adds to the lively atmosphere.
I highly recommend Desi Dera to anyone visiting Birmingham. Congratulations to the team for maintaining such high standards and creating such a fantastic dining experience. This is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves authentic...
Read moreFood: Ordered Lamb bhuna medium, and chicken palak mild. Both arrived extra hot, so they ignored our preferences. Plus I have a feeling they ignored the preferences because it was all pre-cooked for a couple of days like Roti Junction style. The only two items that were fresh was the cheese naans and the boiled rice. Plus they don’t have ice, which restaurant in 2024 doesn’t have ice?
Service: the lady that served us was very friendly and interacted with our kids. She brought everything to us without any delays and was quite attentive.
Atmosphere: it’s Alum Rock at the end of the day, so you have to be prepared, for example you’ll find guys from other families seated around just love to stare at you, or are extra loud as they love the sound of their own voice.
Won’t really go back here again, unless it’s for starters and sides, as everything else is pre-cooked a few days ago and will upset...

She was also very loud, and when we tried to express our concerns about the wrong order and overall service, her response was unprofessional. Instead of addressing the issue calmly, she blamed the chef and became louder.
When I asked her to lower her voice and speak more quietly, she misunderstood and started crying, accusing us of telling her to ‘shut up,’ which was not the case. This made the situation even more uncomfortable.
I believe the staff could benefit from better communication training and customer service skills to avoid such misunderstandings in the future. Hopefully, this feedback helps improve the experience for...
