I’ve visited Sultan Grill a couple of times in the past, but today’s experience was, without question, the worst, diabolical, even. I walked in with a menu that had been posted through my letterbox, only to be told that the prices were no longer valid. The head chef, a Turkish guy with glasses, smugly claimed that he personally posts the menus himself. I nearly laughed in his face. I calmly explained that had he actually done that, I wouldn’t be standing there with a clearly outdated menu that was delivered only a month ago. He insisted the “new” menu had already been distributed. At this point, I realised I was dealing with a part-time chef, part-time postman, part-time cashier, and part-time manager but full-time bullsh*t artist. I gave him a choice: either honour the prices on the menu he allegedly delivered, or lose a customer for good. After some shameless back-and-forth, he finally revised the price. A small victory, but hardly one worth celebrating. I got home and tucked into what can only be described as an insult to food. Bland, soulless, and utterly tasteless — which, in hindsight, perfectly sums up the entire Sultan Grill experience. The chicken shish, chicken shwarma with rice and half chicken weren’t even worth the original price, let alone the inflated prices from this so-called "new menu" that never arrived. In short: a shambolic operation run by people who treat customers like fools. They’ll bend logic just to squeeze a couple of extra quid from you, and in return, you get food that makes beans on toast look like a Michelin-star meal. Avoid Sultan Grill unless you enjoy lies, price baiting, and food that tastes like cardboard.

Clean place. Not sure if they still do the variety of salads I have taken in the pic as that was from when they first opened. Their grills are really good. I recommend their shawarma it isn’t too salty. I recommend their wings, lamb chops we enjoyed them the most. Previously we have also ordered grilled fish too but we ate this in. Tasted really good! One thing I would say is to always order grills like wings, lamb chops, tikka and so on. And better to eat in. This food does not travel well and will not taste as nice compared to when you eat in. I LOVE their soup!!! It’s one of the best the one they serve complimentary. Their tea is the best too!! Make sure you ask for it when you dine in. Parking is difficult. However it’s worth it. There is enough space to eat in inside. I like eating food which is not over powered with spices and the authentic taste of the meat comes through. If that is up your street dine in, order grills, smile and enjoy!

I’m fond of good quality Shawarma but most places have disappointed me. I visited this place with trepidation but am pleased to report that the chicken shawarma is very nice, however the “lamb” shawarma was very chewy. From the taste I’m certain it was mutton. I ordered the mixed shawarma (shown below) with salad. Will visit again but only for the chicken. Server initially got my order wrong until I told him the item number, each item on the menu is numbered and it’s best to use this system to order as there is somewhat of a language barrier. Was also told the light pink sauce (seen below) was garlic sauce but it wasn’t. They had a yellow sauce which I’m sure was the garlic so server got this wrong. Overall nice place and will eat in with friends soon. Atmosphere seems unique. Not many places now that you can get a decent meal for £6.

Review for Sultan's Grill, Alum Rock:

I recently visited Sultan's Grill in Alum Rock after receiving several recommendations from friends, and I must say, it did not disappoint! The moment I walked in, I was impressed by the beautiful decor that set a warm and inviting atmosphere for dining.

Now, let's talk about the food – it was simply amazing! I ordered the mixed shawarma, and it was bursting with flavor. The portion was generous, perfect for someone with a big appetite like mine. The lamb tikka and lamb shish were also standout dishes; both were incredibly tasty and cooked to perfection.

The service was fantastic as well. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that all our needs were met throughout the meal. It was clear they were dedicated to providing a great experience not just for us, but for all the customers dining that night.

Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my meal and the entire experience at Sultan's Grill. The value for money is exceptional, making it a place I would highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious food and a great atmosphere. I can't wait to return for...
