First visit ever this morning. Together with 8 fishing friends from The Kingsbury Angling Club. We wanted to try out the canal which runs alongside The Boat Pub. However, as a 'Brucie bonus" we discovered that the pub opened at 7.00 a.m. for serving cooked breakfasts!
As anyone can tell you, fisherman are nothing if not expert's on Full English brekky's.!
I chose the medium full English at £5.75 which included 2 rounds of B&B or toast and a mug of steaming hot tea.
The whole experience did not disappoint. I seriously don't think I could have managed to finish the "big Brekky option (there is a "small brekky" option also!
We were all very impressed with the quality of the food and the welcome we were given.
P.S. On a personal note I finished last in the small contest we organized (a new world record for me as I have been in last place for the previous three contests, god loves a trier!).
On the plus side though I didn't need to touch my packed lunch and the Cornish Pastie was returned home unscathed. Check this pub out, fantastic value and...
Read moreMyself and my two friends visited this pub after a bike ride. We sat down in the pub and were chatting. The bar man then abruptly asked if we were getting a drink. I politely let him know I was just deciding what I wanted. A couple sat at the bar laughed at us as they told the bar man we was messing around. I then brought a Pepsi. I asked the man behind the bar what he meant and if he asked everyone if they’re buying a drink. He explained the couple told him we was messing around and that if we wasn’t going to buy a drink we could leave. The man behind the bar told me that “we came into the pub and didn’t acknowledge him” to which I replied I wasn’t sure I had to. He then asked how old I was, I’m 21, and then he asked for my ID… however i was getting a Pepsi so asked why he needed to see it. He told me it was his pub which I was polite and tried to understand what he was saying. I totally understand it’s his pub but to me it felt we was being judged as we had joggers and hoodies on. This is discrimination it’s a very cliquey pub....
Read moreIt's a great little place on the canal at the edge of Birmingham, with lots of picnic tables to sit outside and relax. There are often boaters mooring up and coming in for a break and you will sometimes see people paddling a long boat or in kayaks - which adds to the fun vibe.
It's a dog friendly pub, as long as your furry friend is on a lead and well behaved - which they always are. You can take a short walk around the block, along the canal, or carry on towards Curdworth and join the "yellow brick road" if you want a longer route.
The beer is good quality and reasonably priced, especially on Mondays. The restaurant side had a refurb last year, with a rugged look which freshened the place up. The food is served from 4pm and has an Indian twist which works. I had a veg platter which was good. They have live bands too, I saw a Madness tribute which was loads of laughs. It's a...
