Mother Hubbard's, a fish and chips food place with a well-designed interior, offers a dining experience that leaves us with mixed feelings. While the ambiance sets the stage for a pleasant meal, the food itself fails to reach the same level of excellence.
Let's start with the positives - the interior. Mother Hubbard's has clearly put effort into creating an inviting and aesthetically pleasing space. The decor exudes a charming coastal vibe, and the cozy seating arrangements make for a comfortable dining atmosphere. It's a place where you might want to linger and soak in the ambiance.
However, when it comes to the food, the experience doesn't quite live up to expectations. The fish and chips, while decent, are somewhat disappointing considering the higher price tag. The portion size is average, and the taste falls short of the flavorsome fish and chips you might hope for. The lack of a standout taste makes it feel like a basic fish and chips dish rather than a memorable culinary experience.
One significant drawback that stands out is the absence of sauce options. A good fish and chips meal is often complemented by an array of flavorful sauces, but unfortunately, Mother Hubbard's doesn't offer any. This omission leaves the meal feeling bland and leaves guests yearning for that extra zing that only the right sauce can provide.
The pricing is another aspect that requires consideration. While quality food can justify higher prices, the basic nature of the fish and chips served at Mother Hubbard's might not entirely warrant the premium cost. The lack of additional elements or unique flavors to elevate the dish makes it feel like you're paying more for the ambiance than for the food itself.
The service at Mother Hubbard's is friendly, but the overall experience is dampened by the uninspiring meal. With a few tweaks to their menu and the addition of sauce options, they could easily elevate the dining experience to match the charm of their interior.
In conclusion, Mother Hubbard's impresses with its well-designed interior and inviting atmosphere, making it an attractive spot to visit. However, the lackluster food quality, combined with higher pricing for a basic dish and the absence of sauces, leaves much to be desired. If you're in search of a lovely ambiance and a place to unwind, Mother Hubbard's might suffice. But, if you're specifically seeking a memorable fish and chips feast, you might want to explore other options...
Read moreHaving eaten at Hubbards so often my first really dissapointing experience. I ordered my customary Fish & Chips, a Curry sauce & a pot of Mushy Peas. Order took a little longer than usual but not a concern. When the order did arrive it was missing a Mushy Peas. It transpired the Mushy Peas was not recorded when I ordered & no money was taken for said Mushy Peas. When I asked for the Mushy Peas this was provided but the staff indicated that as a payment had not been taken I would have to pay. Obviously as a business they were rightly entitled to ask for the money but as a good PR move I would have expected this low cost item to have been given due to the confusion free of charge. Surprisingly this felt to me a really bad example of customer service & I felt strangely slighted by this action. When I did begin eating the curry sauce & Mushy Peas appeared heavily watered down. In my numerous visits I had never experienced these items this watered down. The Fish & Chips as usual was pretty delicious but the overall experience was a dissapointment. I am sure the staff & owner of Hubbards will care but the Mushy Peas incident where I felt thd staff should have just said have the Mushy Peas free was to a point where I will never be going...
Read moreMy visit didn’t start too well because one of the delivery people had left a large open holdall on the floor immediately in front of the counter. Because I was heading towards the counter and wasn’t looking down, I didn’t notice it and tripped over it.
No serious injury done, but I damaged one of my gel nails and tore off the adjacent one. That will need a visit to the nail salon. I don’t know where all these other people normally go. I had been out all afternoon and I was feeling a bit tired so I didn’t make a fuss about the holdall. The staff were pleasant and quite friendly so I had no complaints there at all.. I ordered and paid for my food and was relieved to get home. On opening the box with fish and chips, I was pleasantly surprised to see a generous portion of fish. The batter was lovely and crispy. The fish, however, was overcooked and very dry, the chips were tasteless and soggy. I don’t know why but I hoped for better. I normally go to Sou’s on Wigan Road but there is always a long queue, whereas it was quiet in here. Not somewhere I’ll be in a hurry to...
