The Jolly Carter — Restaurant in Bolton

Visited today as we go quite regular, we were very disapointed in quality of food,ordered one of oyr favourites fish fingers on a sub roll and here it all goes downhill, the meal came a sub roll cut into two halves and very small potion of fries the tartae sauce was already on the sub not as usual on the side, good job we both like it, i took two bites no fish just bread? Both myself and hubby opened up the sandwich to find a skimpy piece of fish on each half of the sub, we were hungry so started to eat the fries after deciding to send the food back, the server removed both plates and after a few minutes returned with the same food on plates, my plate was given to my hubby i knew it was mine as mine had two bites out of it, i could not believe it! It had not altered same as i sent it back my other half of sanwich was added with another small piece of fish which was hot but the original was part was cold, my hubby too had a extra small fish on, the burger that the third person had was nothing to write about and we were over charged for it but this was rectified, we decided as we were hungry we would just eat the poor offerings we were served up and leave vowing never to return, its pity as we had same meal two weeks ago and it was soo nice and generous in size and served up really nice, we realise things have gone up but standards have slipped and the chief today apeared not to care about his role or his customers. Very poor service today, also staff decided that she would argue with me. No customer service skills at all. Must ad since the pub had be taken over we have been a good few times. But today was shocking.We arrived at 13.15. Sat down straight away and offered drinks, there was nobody else in the place. By 13.30 we had ordered our food and at 14.00 we asked where our food was due to us only ordering a sandwich and a salad. To be told another 5 minutes we didn't mind this. But when the food came it was wrong, We had asked for a salmon salad, but what came was a tiny small piece of salmon on a pile of noodles, we said this is not what we asked for, we ask where the salad was, this is when the waitress decided to start to argue, went back in the kitchen then brought out a bowl with spinach expecting us to remove the salmon from one plate to another, This along with the wait was to much, we decided we were leaving, when we said this to the waitress. Called in for lunch with my 10 month old daughter on a Tuesday after seeing there was a new menu. The staff at the front of house were friendly and really helpful (babies don't travel light!). I was really impressed by the choice of dishes available on the new menu. After taking far too long to decide I went for the pork belly baguette and the chicken katsu fries. The pork belly in bbq sauce was crispy and tangy, and I'd definitely order it again. The real star of my lunch were the chicken katsu fries though. Proper chips, covered in one of the most flavorful curry sauces I've ever eaten, topped with perfectly cooked chicken and spring onions. I'd happily eat that curry sauce again every week, it was mild enough for my daughter to enjoy as well which was a bonus, and it's the first thing I find myself telling people about when they ask how my visit was.
