Booked online to ensure we had a table. On arrival we where told that the manger was in the kitchen sorting a problem out and none of the other staff knew how to use the computer booking system, so could we wait I the bar and order drinks, which we did. After 10 minutes of waiting I could see other groups of diners coming in being asked if they had booked and when they said they hadn't they were taken into the dining area and seated. I waited a further 10 minutes and watched as more unbooked guests were seated. I approached the desk to wait for the staff member to return from seating yet another group of diners, upon waiting I was asked by a staff member behind the bar if they could help. I explained the situation that I had booked and understand that when I arrived there had been an issue but that I didn't seem right that I could see other diners that had just walked in being seated whilst I had been waiting for over 20 minutes. I asked that as I had already received a text message saying sorry you couldn't join us today could we now not be seated as a family who no longer had a booking or could we just not be seated anyway as it was clear they had tables available. I was told this was not possible as they were " just floor staff" and I would have to carry on waiting until the person (whoever they were) was ready to come and seat us. At this point I told them to forget the booking and seating us as we were leaving. I spent over £14 on drinks that we would have liked with our meal, what a waste of time and money. Common sense was severely lacking from all members of staff I have no intention of returning and I live locally. I understand the hospitality business as I spent over 10 years working in it and this is no way to run a business
the response below is inaccurate as i was not spoken to by the manager or asked to come to the door when i was ready to be seated i also find it to be very unprofessional and rather disrespectful and it in no way reflects the private response i received which is below.
Dear Rachel
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback regarding your visit to our pub yesterday. I am truly sorry that your reservation with us did not go as planned. I should have been greeting guests myself but we had a major problem with our carvery heat lights that needed my immediate attention and to put in place a way of serving carvery food to our guests that would not cause us to close the business.
I can understand your frustration that one of my team members could not use some initiative and seat you in the restaurant rather than ask you to wait in the bar area regardless of having the knowledge of using the bookings laptop.
I wasn’t aware of this until I had sorted the kitchen issue and was told that you had left because of the wait for a table.
I have spoken to the team that were working yesterday evening and told them that you should have just been seated on time and not asked to wait because, as you have mentioned, there were ample tables available to accommodate you.
Once again please accept my apologies and hope that in time your faith in us may be restored and you will be able to give us another chance to show that we can run our business properly.

Read moreEnjoyment of meal let down by poor attitude of Manager. On arrival we were shown to a table by female manager that was against a wall with no access to see out of a window. As the views looked lovely we asked if it was possible to have somewhere near a window only to be told there wasn’t anywhere available anywhere near a window. This seemed odd as at 5pm on a Thursday it wasn’t very busy. Thankfully a couple had overheard and offered us their table as they were leaving. We asked the waitress for extra time to look fully at the menu only to be told on ordering that 2 out of 3 of our choices wasn’t available. My second choice also wasn’t available. Not sure why this couldn’t have been said when menus were provided. Overall, following service from waitress was good. Unfortunately the salmon on roasted veg ordered was incredibly salty (I would have needed a couple of pints of water to eat it), it was mentioned to waitress who stated it would be taken off the bill (just the salmon extra, not the meal so only £1.70 taken off bill) . Overall, rest of the food was fine and we enjoyed our meals. On leaving we approached the manager at the bar to pay. I presented a discount code for being NHS which I’d previously told the waitress about. The manager stated that she didn’t think I was entitled to discount due to salmon being taken off meal, her manner was very unfriendly. I had to point out how ridiculous this would be to not get discount due to one part of meal being faulty/inedible. Ultimately I’d be paying more than if I’d said nothing about the salmon and got the discount. She agreed to try and discount applied though unsure if this would have been done if I hadn’t of refused to pay without it. Attitude was terrible. If this particular manager had some customer service training and menu options made clearer this is a lovely restaurant. Very nice interior with nice views and chefs/waitress who served friendly...
