The Running Horse — Restaurant in Borough of Spelthorne

First time visitor to The Running Horse, came in Sunday (30th June) afternoon / evening time to watch the football with a few drinks, and have some food.

Genuine welcome feeling from start to finish, with all the staff friendly and happy to help with anything needed.

Loads of space inside and out, perfect for when the suns out for a bit to chill in the quiet garden with a cold pint in hand.

Lots of seats reserved for the England game, but equally loads free so had no problem at all getting a top spot to watch and chill for a few hours.

Ordering at the bar and through the app - both just as good and no problems at all using either - quick service on both so no complaints at all.

Had the classic grilled chicken burger with fries - was hot, fresh and full of flavour - great price at £7.49!

I review quite a few places on Google, and should point out this is not a stuck-up high end posh pub so isn't going to be to everyone's taste. Personally - I love it here, down to earth friendly people with good prices.

Full of feral children running around swearing, feral adults running around swearing then passing out on the floor whilst their children run around crying that "mummy has passed out" and complaining about being hungry and trying to get booze from the bar.

45 min wait for food because a big table just arrived that they hadn't expected. Not sure if the big table was myself and the missus or the only other 4 ppl sat ordering food. Let's just say they can't run a kitchen. Food was barely edible I had Macaroni cheese which was like eating a bowl of melted cheese with a hint of macaroni. Failed to bring the garlic bread that comes with the meal. My girlfriend couldn't even bring herself to finish her meal.

Only positive is some of the regulars understand bar etiquette and if they were served b4 me they pointed the bar staff in my direction.

Won't be returning and will prob be avoiding sunbury if this pub a example of...

There is a lovely vibe and the service staff was amazing. Unfortunately there was a large group of us and we had real trouble even getting the meals we ordered out and there was some real issues with the group getting their food at different times (I ate about 2 hours before the rest of my party). My serious advice is to only go here in smaller groups or pre-book it. We ordered and they didn't run our orders through the till properly. It was all a bit of a palava.
