Had a take away from this restaurant a few weeks ago and to be honest, the food was tasty and of generous portions. Decided to try the restaurant out and we arrived on a Friday around 6pm. We entered the takeaway end as we didn't realise you could enter at the side of the building to be met by a young chap who was friendly and showed us to a table. Although the evening was still daylight outside, there was no ambience in the restaurant and no table cloths or any character whatsoever which once myself and my wife were seated, we had second thoughts about getting up and ordering a takeaway but so as not to be rude, we decided to remain seated. The young waiter took our order and I asked if we could have a beer and a wine. The waiter said sorry we don't serve alcohol drinks as we are not licenced and if I wanted to I could nip to the coop and get some from there and drink in the restaurant. I said oh okay then never mind could we share a jug of water instead. He came back with 2 glasses of lukewarm cold water which wasn't nice but we didn't want to complain about it. Waited and waited for over 15 minutes until our poppadoms arrived. They were lovely and crispy but the white rhiata on the pickle tray was very runny and tasted watered down. We had a couple of onion bhaji's on the side which were so tasty and probably the best ones we have ever eaten. The waiter kept on disappearing and the whole restaurant lacked any background music and only 2 other couples came in whilst we were there. A young girl waitress appeared and she was very nice and appeared to be on the ball alot more than the young gentlemen and I think she realised we were still waiting for the main course after our dirty plates and cutlery had been sitting on the table for a while. The main meal arrived and my wife had a Chicken tikka makani and I had a Chicken tikka passada. Presentation was nice but again both dishes lacked flavour and looked like the sauces had been watered down. There was hardly any chicken in either dish and the vegetable pilau rice had big pieces of broccoli in and Brussel sprouts ?. We are not ones for complaining but the dishes we experienced were well under par and to top it all we had to pay by cash only so luckily there was a cashpoint at the coop. After having a nice takeaway a few weeks previous to sitting in the restaurant we found both experiences worlds appart. I don't really want to say we would never use this place again but unless the quality of the food gets to a decent standard, unfortunately we will...
Read moreOrdered at around 5:30pm via Just Eat. Picked an allotted time (7pm), the app instantly altered it to 7:15pm it then changed to 7:30pm. I call Clay Oven at about 7:40pm and was told I ordered for 7:15pm I said I ordered it for 7pm. He told me it's on its way........the food got here at 7:55pm. I had a cob on when it arrived and the lass that delivered our order was cheerful polite and apologetic (not her fault is it?). On eating the food, four onion bhaji were included but not ordered (a sweetener because of lateness), they were dry and tasteless......insult to injury. The food was.......OK. No point in having an alloted time choice and ordering early to avoid the rush when it still comes just short of an hour late. I know people love this place as we have in the past but we won't be...
