We came for Sunday lunch, 2pm sitting last Sunday 5th Feb '23. I am one of the most picky people when it comes to Sunday roast, it is my most favourite meal of the week. I usually cook for myself because I am that picky, however, I was post night shifts, really tired and I knew I would not want to cook so pre-emptively booked us in. I was not disappointed, I had been looking forward to this meal all night shift. From the second we set foot in the door, we were greated by 3 members of the family that run this fab pub, the land lady Marie was really welcoming, Landlord Andy (whilst carving the meat) was equally as welcoming and we were shown to our table by their son. We had not been before so we were not sure how the sitting worked, Marie was lovely and explained that we would be given tokens for the carvery once we had ordered drinks and told the server which size roast we would like, (the other diners were equally as welcoming, letting us know what size they had so we could judge!). Then we would be invited up to the carvery in order of arrival, this worked really well meaning there was not always a big queue and the carvery could be topped up regularly. When it was our turn to go up, there was a fabulous selection of meats, beef, turkey and ham, my hubby had all 3, I stuck to my favourite beef. There was a great vegetable selection, carrots, cauli, brocoli, green beans, roast potatoes and mash ... not forgetting the huge Yorkshire puddings, which were amazing and oh my goodness, I nearly forgot about the gravy.... I could have drank the gravy straight out of the pot ... it was delicious, thick and full of flavour. Next came desserts ... Ice cream for my little person, mint cheesecake for my hubby and I had the apple and raspberry crumble. My eyes were bigger than my belly and I couldn't finish all my pudding but safe to say I went home a happy, tired poppet. We will definitely be back. If you have not tried this place for a meal yet, I would highly recommend you do, it is honestly like a home from home, so welcoming, great food, great company and not bad on the pocket either ... bonus if you have a blue light card there is discount to be had! Go on give it a try, you won't be...
Read moreI have heard great personal reviews for this place, so I decided to have a Sunday carvery here, (note, pre-booking is highly recommended, as it is so popular and busy at this place for good reasons). Upon us both arriving, everything was well organised and explained by the staff, including a notice on the table that stated the order that our table will be processed and called when the carvery is ready for us, to avoid queuing too long, this is how it is so efficient and is a customer friendly focussed place. After one of the best Carvery meals I have eaten, we noticed that in the rear beer gardens, the lovely landlords had another surprise, live music from their own stage that they have built in the gardens to entertain their customers. Unfortunately, I missed the Robbie Williams tribute set, due to enjoying my food too much, but I was more than happy after I finished eating inside, spending the next few hours watching the next set who where Scoundrel Dayz, singing lots of 80's hits, of which, got everyone dancing to their amazing music. When The Ball House switched from carvery service to the outside music venue, everything was handled smoothly, including a new outside menu making sure people who were peckish, were looked after. All of the staff have been highly trained and attentive, I could not fault any aspect of my visit to...
Read moreSuch a disappointment! We arrived at 6:45pm on a Friday evening, to a completely pub! We were sat at a table next to the window…. we know the trick is so people outside can see others in the pub. Drinks were ordered and we began to review the menu, once we peeled it from the sticky table! Good choice on the menu, but I felt was overpriced, any how, we ordered. I ordered trio of sausages, and my husband gammon- so to review the food…nothing to complain about the sausages- they were from Mountains- the mash took over half the plate and was a Luke warm slop, carrots were just off raw and had dried out, and peas are peas. The gravy came in a cute little pot which was too hot to touch- clearly microwaved, and as I went to pour the gravy using my napkin to protect my hand, it wouldn’t come out of the pot!! I stirred it and teased it out of the pot in what can only be described as brown lumps. In terms of the gammon meal, the tomato was just off raw, fried egg was flipped and cooked on both sides so was hard. Gammon steak was in fact a gammon slice. Not a single person came into the pub whilst we were there, and if this is the quality of the food at high prices, I can see why. All I can say is the Sunday carvery must be good to keep...
