Shimla Spice: A Symphony of Spice and Delight
Nestled amidst the inauspicious concrete towers of Keighley high street, Shimla Spice delivers something extraordinary: a reminder of why curry has firmly entrenched itself in the nation’s culinary psyche. This is food that doesn’t just feed—it serenades.
At the heart of their menu lies a Lamb Nihari that can only be described as transcendent. The meat, impossibly tender, collapses at the mere suggestion of a fork, swimming in a velvety sauce that hums with the gentle warmth of ginger, lemongrass and the smoky embrace of cumin. Each mouthful delivers a chorus of flavor, as if the kitchen has enlisted a symphony orchestra of spices, each instrument perfectly tuned, playing in glorious harmony.
And then there’s the naan, a thing of understated beauty. Too often, naan suffers from bloat or stodge, an afterthought relegated to the edge of the plate. Not here. These are clouds spun from flour, water, and some alchemical magic. Feather-light, yet with just the right stretch and char, they’re the perfect vehicle for mopping up the last saffron-tinted droplets from your plate.
Shimla Spice doesn’t shout its brilliance from the rooftops; it doesn’t need to. The food speaks for itself—quietly, confidently, and utterly irresistibly. You’ll leave full, yes, but also full of gratitude that places like this still exist. One of the best curries I’ve had in years. Do yourself a favor and book...
Read moreWe never leave reviews but this restaurant most defiantly got the thumbs up from us. This was our first visit on Saturday 4th March to Shimla spice Keighley after getting recommended by our taxi driver. Upon arrival at 8:20 the restaurant was extremely busy and we had to wait 25 mins for a table. Whilst we waited we noticed that there was a big rush of customers collecting food and delivery drivers taking food away. This has to be one of the busiest restaurant we have ever visited. Once at our table and ordered we was worried that our food might take a long time to arrive, however with 20 minutes our starters arrived and main courses followed fairly quickly after. I must point out considering how busy the restaurant was we was amazed how good the service and food was. We opted for for the mix starter to share a Asian style chicken karahi, lamb shank and a large garlic nan to share. The food was recommended by a waiter and it was a good choice. £50 for a meal with 2 drinks is superb and we had some food left to take home. Had the privilege to speak to the boss who set up the restaurant 25 years ago with his brothers and now its ran by his sons and nephews. Thank you for the splendid night We shall see you again soon...
Read moreFirst visit to Shimla Spice in Keighley, though have been to the Shipley branch quite a few times.
Meeting up with old friends and this was the choice for the evening. Easy to book and we were shown to our table when all had arrived. Menus were handed out and we were given plenty of time to make our decisions, which we needed as there was plenty of choice. Attentive waiters made suggestions for some choices and we chatted whilst waiting in anticipation as well as enjoying the poppadoms provided.
Our started arrived and we set to, all were enjoyed tremendously and we looked forward to our main courses. Customers are allowed to bring their own drinks and glasses will be supplied. We did ask for water and we were well supplied throughout the meal.
There were five of us, all making individual choices with meat or vegetarian dishes as well as choices of naan breads or rice. All dishes were highly praised by all. The servings were very generous and a couple of our party had to ask for 'doggy bags' to take their remainders home.
All in all an excellent and attentive service. This branch is clearly a popular spot as, even on a midweek evening, it was very busy. Definitely...
