An all round poor meal for 5 adults and 1 child. Looked online at their menu which looked good, lots of options. Unfortunately we went on a Sunday to find they only served the sunday menu. Not sure this we mentioned on the website. This menu had very little options, with nothing I really fancied.

I ended up going for the chicken and mushroom pie, which I was hesitant about as when I enquired I was told it was potted with a pastry 'lid'. Why has it become the norm for pubs to advertise a pastry lid as a pie! This is not a pie and never as good as a full pie! I suspect they do it as it's easier and cheaper. And as I feared it was very mediocre. The lid was a thin shortcrust (not buttery or rich), the filling large chunks of chicken breast however quite tasteless. Accompanied by ok chips and ok veg. Cost about £10 which prior to eating i felt was a bit expensive for a sideless pie and after eating it felt ripped off.

Others had fish and chips, the fish was small, batter not great and also luke warm. Steak and ale pie, which was very watery and again not a pie. And Sunday roast (only meat option was beef) which was "ok" however did have a generous portion of beef. All these were about £10 again quite steep especially for the quality. The wait for the food was quite long, although they were quite busy.

Another negative was the children's meal, sausage and mash, which was just that, no vegtables or even gravy. I would think all children's meal should come with some veg. Also £5 seemed a bit steep for this too. We did give feedback that we thought it would be good for it to come with vegtables for kids to be told that it's not part of the menu but she would have brought some had we asked, completely missing the point of our suggestion.

The drink options were standard, however as an ale drinker it would be good to have a few more guest ales to chose from (think there were two on)

Another slight niggle was the payment. We wanted to pay separately at the bar as some didn't have cash. Unfortunately we were told they didn't have the facility to pay separately. I don't really see how this couldn't be done. Simply put the orders into the till separately. So one of the group had to pay with the rest sending bank transfers later.

One plus is the pub is very nice looking with vaulted ceiling and exposed beams. Would have been nice for the fire to...

Me and my partner turned up here after our very long walk looking forward to a nice drink and lunch as this place had been recommended, on arrival I was desperate for the toilet I was confronted by a woman at the door and she asked very abruptly "what did I want" I said i needed to use the toilet, she said very abruptly "customers only" I said we are customers and wanted to buy a drink and have lunch, she then went on to say abruptly "you have to log into track and trace" and then turned to other customers saying how people like me shouldn't expect to come into the pub like that to use the toilet, just rude. I agree and understand everyone has to log in of course, but I feel i could of been greeted in a different manner as we were going to be paying customers. So I would suggest that the staff have some lessons on how to communicate in speaking to customers in a more polite way. So we decided to...

The girl behind the bar was so lovely and her customer service was Brill. Ace selection of drinks and generally a nice atmos. We were disappointed at food though. One of our group was vegan and was going to settle with just veg for Sunday dinner as no vegan option. Her extra veg portion was sent covered in butter though and tbh her plate was mainly roasties and they weren't very appetising- bit tough. I had meatless dinner too as I'm Veggie and it was a bit meh. Sugar snap peas and tough tatties... Boooo. Totally recommend keeping a few veggie and vegan bangers in the freezer-they'll keep for months. Veganism especially is really growing and it generally gives you really good brownie points on things like tripadvisor to have an option or 2. I'll come back for a beer but not sure id bother for food...

My friends and I visited the Old Glen House the first night I arrived in Leeds (I live in the US). The steak and ale pie was amazing, as was the apple/rhubarb dessert!!! (Truly the best beef pie I've ever had). We then travelled all the way to the Scottish Highlands for a week, eating at pubs and restaurants along the way. Out of our entire trip, The Old Glen House was the best food and had our favorite employees. They made us feel welcome in their home. I highly recommend the pies as well as the chicken burgers (My friend said it was the best he's ever eaten). Go to the Old Glen House! And while you're there, stroll down to the Old Glen in the woods just behind it. It's beautiful.

Sunday lunch is a family oriented and dog friendly experience, although it's time they reopened their car park to customers instead of just the staff. This causes on street parking issues at busy times which I'm sure the local residents are not happy about. A well kept pint of hand pulled Saltaire beer and half an Amstel lager was £6.05, a Yorkshire pudding starter with gravy £4.50 and a Sunday lunch main roast of the day £12.95.

Lovely pub, good food. Only reason it's got 4 stars and not 5 is it's dog friendly which I know some people will like, I just prefer places that aren't, but it wouldn't put me off a future visit.
