We went for lunch at the Warrener today 23 rd April 2023. We were greeted at front of house near laptop by a young man I did not get his name who took us to a table .We were lucky had no wait as the restaurant was fully booked the time was 1.45 pm but there was one table that had just become available the young man knew his seating availability. We then took our seats and was greeted by Conor a waiter who took our drink and food order as we both knew what we wanted which was a 18 size portion of chicken wings mine were hot came with blue cheese my daughter had the bbq .I also ordered a side of onion rings and cheesy chips . I would have ordered chilly cheese fries but unfortunately the restaurant had run out of the chilly . I have to say the service was the best we have had in many visits to restaurants all over britain in our extensive travels of the Uk . In the last 30 visits of restaurants I’ve been to the Warrener was by far the best all round place to eat out . The food was a 10 The service was a10 The price for each meal was excellent value so a 10 there too Tagged onto a premier in Gets it another 10. As stated the food was of such great quality and taste we also ordered dessert chocolate browny and a classic knicker bocker glory both get a 10 . The dessert menu like the main menu had classic specials .I wish I could have had the jam rolly polly too with custard as ordered by couple next to us . It was a superb out of the ordinary restaurant experience for me having eaten out so many restaurants this Warrener restaurant stood out above all other contenders Finally I’d like to give special mention to the chefs that are Matt ,Malcolm ,Leah and Lauryna who made our trip for lunch a best experience we’ve had in such a long time of dining out . Well done to Conor the waiter and a completely superb all round effort giving me an easy award of 10 . Put it this way I’ve not asked to speak to a chef in a long time let alone buy chef Matt ,Malcolm ,Leah and Lauryna a drink after leaving a tip such was my admiration of a bloody great all round experience . There is some great food being served at the warrener. If I was going to add one negative was no chilly cheese fries as they had run out of chilly and possibly the name of the pub restaurant the warrener ?? which is not a memorable name it was only the quality of food and service that made me remember the pub name that does not sit easy to recall Well done the next time we are in Thetford we will definitely be coming to lunch again To the management please keep up the excellent job you should be proud of your team there’s a premier inn next to you but you have a unbeatable premier team in your restaurant...
Read moreBooked for a group of friends on a Sunday to all have roasts as they have unlimited yorkshires and potatoes with the 'big meal' (+£1). Most were happy with their roasts and staff were mostly accommodating. I chose there as they had a good looking vegan option for roast, when arrived, we were told they had no vegan/veggie alternative for the roast and no suggestions otherwise. We then asked to have the vegan chilli instead of the pie and still have the roast trimmings, this was accommodated, but a very inconsistent roast. Some had parsnips and lots of veggie mash, I had an enormous pile of green beans - didn't want - and a tiny blob of mash; and of course they don't do a vegan alternative for yorkshire puddings, so basically £1 extra for potatoes and no substitutes. I had low expectations but I was still somewhat disappointed with the inconsistencies and lack of suitable alternatives - for vegetarians or allergy sufferers. (it's a Sunday and we came for a Sunday roast - how do you not have the main part of that meal stocked up??) My partner had their vegan chocolate torte for dessert and that was the best part for him, very rich and tasty. Okay value for £8.99 but slightly disappointing overall. Service was quite quick, but our main server was not the friendliest/most accommodating, compared to the waiters that brought our drinks. There were 'regular' customers that seemed to be treated nicer than us. Wouldn't go again. Would have liked to give feedback at the restaurant/on their website, but this was not possible and want to give a helpful review for others...
Read morePretty poor, small portions of less than average food with delusions of service. We had to go back to the entrance to be seated by staff who were just idling about and had missed us on entry. Asked waitress for Great Ormond St charity lucky dip who then just disappeared, partial save by friendly barmaid who was really nice with children and gave them lollies when they blanked at lucky dip (well it was for charity so 2 stars instead of 1 for that). Underwhelmed by food lasagne was frazzled with one small slice of garlic bread. My steak was well cooked but spattering of peas and chips was miserly. On principle we didn't order desert as restaurant doesn't deserve any additional funds from my custom. On the plus side the Chase (Hungry Horse chain pub) is being refurbished to open Friday; no staff idling about to seat you somewhere, so some may say less civilised. I beg to differ as I'm sure the couple sat next to us also would. They were alone and obviously trying to have a nice quiet evening so why sit them next to a family with a 6 and 8 year old when the restaurant is clearly empty. I love my children and they behaved well but I understand others liking a bit of peace and quiet as I do when child free. Idling staff take note, smiles please and thankyou is the bare minimum. Long rant over but other restaurants in Thetford even the large chains absolutely thrash the Warrener. Some credit to the other folks who work so hard at serving their customers in Thetford I think, a short walk or taxi ride away if you're feeling like fish in a barrel staying at the...
