WOW! Where do I even begin? Café Fed in Redland is definitely a café with a difference. Honestly, from the outside, it looks rubbish might not even know it's a cafe. I walked in and, well, let's just say the interior decor didn’t exactly scream, "Prepare for greatness!"
Naturally, I scourer the menu and started my hunt for the holy grail of all café menus—bacon and sausage. To my utter shock, there was nothing of the sort. Nada. Zilch. I thought maybe I was in the wrong place.
So, slightly confused, I approached the lovely gentleman behind the counter and asked for his recommendation. He calmly suggested I try either the Black Garlic Toastie or the Chorizo Brie Chilli Jam Toastie. We ordered both and split them—because who doesn't love halvesies.
Now, let me tell you about the Black Garlic Toastie. At first, I was a bit nervous about the blue cheese—because, you know, blue cheese can sometimes taste like it’s plotting to overthrow your taste buds. But this toastie was nothing short of a miracle. The blue cheese wasn’t overpowering; it was just perfect. The ingredients were top-notch, the flavors were spot-on, and the cheese pull? 10/10. I’m already counting the days until I can eat this again.
And then there was the Chorizo Brie Chilli Jam Toastie, which was like a posh pizza dressed up for a fancy gala. Absolute perfection. I may have shed a tear of joy.
The coffee was nice, too, and to top it all off, they gave us some mint and cucumber water that was so refreshing, it made me feel like my taste buds had just been on a spa day.
So seriously, you need to try this place for yourself. It’s a little pricey, but trust me, every penny is well spent. But here’s a tip from the wise: the lovely gentleman behind the counter mentioned that they usually sell out of the good stuff by 1 pm. So, don’t be a slacker—get there early! As they say, the early bird gets...
Read moreI have very mixed feelings with FED. This shop is doing some things really great and some really bad. Don't take me wrong here! Food is really great quality, but it's always something wrong with it: Cakes? Great taste but way overpriced. Coffee? Yeah good taste but overpriced for the quality of it (you have a lot of other coffee shops around with better quality and lower price). Burger/sandwich (from the attached photo)? Of course it's a great taste, but it's waaaay overpriced (£6.5 for a roll, cheese, egg and lettuce).
but there are more bad things like: whenever I would like to take something take-away, I'm waiting minimum 8-10 minutes outside for my order. It doesn't matter if there were 2 people in the queue or 10 of them. I need always wait really long time for my order I've ordered that burger and inside was an egg shell. It was not just 1 bite - I could feel it in 3 bites. Really awful experience when you are grabbing a roll for £6.5 and you can feel egg shell in most bites of that roll I asked if someone from stuff can wipe the table (you know, kind of obvious 2 things: some dirty stains left after coffee + COVID). Stuff came after 5 minutes, cleaned one corner of the table and left. I asked once again if that person can clean the whole table and I could hear that I annoyed her. I don't know, cleaning the whole table during pandemic is kind of standard thing in restaurants? The funny thing is if I will not ask for wiping table then the table will be left like that
For 2 coffees and that burger/sandwich I paid £12.75. It's ridicules high price. Almost nothing on the shelf/at the front got a price. You will know the price if you will ask stuff for it or when you will be paying (like me this time).
So based on this I'm giving 3/5. Quality of food is awesome but I can find other places where I can support local business and got...
Read moreUsually love coming here for a coffee and sweet treat. Not too big and usually a lil busy but no issues.
Today however me and a friend got two oat lattes. After drinking a little of the coffees we both noticed that the drinks didn't taste right. realised our milk had curdled and that was the reason why they didn't taste right. My friend told a member of staff to see if it was something they knew would have happened or to see if we may get the drinks remade as they really weren't nice. The staff member said "okay" and walked off without saying anything else. My friend returned to the table confused as to what was happening given she wasn't told anything. After sitting confused for a few minutes another staff member came along to see what the issue was and explained that the coffee was just acidic so curdled the milk, and that they didn't know what we wanted them to do. Generally was just and uncomfortable and felt like we were being talked down on for complaining about something that felt like a genuine complaint. They did replace the drinks with some iced americanos but the whole experience was just generally very unpleasant and not what I'd expect to get at any nice coffee shop.
Will definitely be thinking twice next time before coming along after...
