Allergy Allert! I went to check the place with a friend and we were very excited about trying their tapas , which it was quite confusing as they explained there was only choices between set menus for 2 people ,once we arrived, which we were happy to try. As I do in all restaurants, I voiced that I was allergic to oysters (which actually , happened to be part of a jus in one of the dishes of the set we ordered) , the waitress thanked me for letting them know. Once the entrées started to be served we wish we had ordered more as the portions were tiny and the items described as part of the dish were laughable ( a drip of sweet potato purée on a plate it’s not part of the dish, it’s garnish) Sooooo pretentious! Anyway the flavours were good , the main arrived and it was really nice, then we ordered desert and by the time I start eating the desert I started to flare and fell really really unwell , I fell like I was going to be sick and also could barely breathe… which makes me believe , that they forgot that the main dish shouldn’t have the oyster jus… I rushed on my way out and the only think the staff was worried was that we paid the bill before we made our way out ( my friend stayed and sorted the bill so he could give me support outside). In any moment the staff came to check on me and gave a actual f**ck. So I’ll say if you have a food allergy or like to have a full meal, avoid this place. Not caring , pretencious...
Read moreAllergy warning ! Gluten free allergy ignored.....These guys are amazing at providing excellent, well sourced food, from ecological sound providers. However today for breakfast, my daughter son-in-law and I, were treated to arrogance and disrespect, while ordering . The passion that is ex assaulted for sourcing the beautiful food in this restaurant, is not transmitted to the customer. My daughter ordered a gluten free breakfast as she is coeliac. The breakfast and drinks came but sadly not gluten free. The waitress was a degree preoccupied and did not check on our well-being...forgot milk for the tea and did not come back to check all was well. I tried to catch her eye and spoke out, to get a refill but she did not notice or come back. I checked aftwards to say how nice the gluten free bread was but to our horror, my daughter had eaten Sour dough bread not the gluten free as requested, which is awaful as this will seriously affect her wellbeing for a day or two. She is also diabetic and this upsets her absorption of sugars too! I was very shocked at the lack of care and attention today. It was a relatively quiet day and I really feel in view of the ‘Pret’ disasters, allergies need to be taken much more seriously. Please, make sure if you need gluten free food you ask for the cook to confirm it is. Sadly disappointing and dangerous to...
Read moreWe love Poco. This is a great little place in the heart and soul of Bristol.
Poco is famous for its small dishes and excellent attitude towards food. The walls are covered in pictures and information about where the food is grown / reared in the areas surrounding Bristol and you do get a sense that they genuinely care, rather than it just being a gimmick.
The plates are varied and delicious, well worth several visits to cover all the available options and ratio of veggie and meat dishes is balanced and all are delicious.
There is a short but interesting cocktail menu, along with wines and the usual local beers and ciders. Last night's favourite was the tequila and marmalade cocktail: 5*.
The seating at the front is very informal, some face the ever- entertaining people's republic of Stokes Croft and some are design for small groups to sit around on high stools. At the back is more intimate and cosy, with wooden tables configured to meet the evenings diners. Great for a romantic 2 or a party of 10 equally.
Overall a great place with the only gripe being the wait on the ever popular cocktails. If it's busy, order drinks straight away or you food might arrive first.
As ever, thanks to the team of knowledgeable and friendly...
