Bristol’s best vegan 🌱 food! The Canteen is one of Bristol’s best indies imo. Their sustainability values are strong, they’re working towards net zero and have done some serious menu analysis 🧐 to help them achieve their goals. In lockdown, they become entirely veggie (having sourced sustainable meat & fish before that). One of the things they have had has helped them achieve their sustainability and carbon targets is having an entirely vegan menu in January. We love to see it! Their ingredients are sourced locally and sustainably, and they also develop their menu regularly and ensure to use produce in season - not skimping out on flavour! We love to see it. Their food is incredible value for the quality of the ingredients and care they take into producing the food. For £8!! The soup and sarnie deal is really good. You get it to eat in or take away and it’s proper filling and really sorted me out on this day when I was still snuffly. The service is super speedy here too, making it perfect for lunch when you’re short on time and need to get back to the office! Other lunch menu highlights include: white wine, vegan cream, tarragon mushrooms on grilled focaccia with a hazelnut crum! My belly is lit rumbling as I write this 😂😂 for ten quid! Sandwich of the day (larger version of what I got) for a fiver. Or an extra £2.50 with salad. Their famous tempeh burger and smashed potatoes for £11! Bristol is such a great city because of all the wonderful venues and spaces like the The Canteen so when you’re thinking of going out for lunch, make sure to pay them a visit. #StokesCroft #Bristol #BristolFoodandDrink #Veganuary #veggie

Bristol’s best vegan food 🌱 📍The Canteen Hal and I aren’t vegan but we sure do love a good date night, especially when it’s supporting Bristol indies and enjoying cool live music 😎 The Canteen is one of my favourite venues in the city! With free live music 7 days a week and a menu focussed on sustainability, innovation and cool ingredients there’s so much to love. Whether you wanna hang out with your pals, or go on a date night The Canteen is a vibe! The menu changes each month, with The Canteen talented head chef cooking up a storm working out the best ways to work with the produce that’s seasonal and local suppliers - we love to see it! There are some classics that pretty much remain on the menu year round including the homemade focaccia, tempeh burger and smashed potatoes (which are all awesome)! But if you’ve been to The Canteen before and need a reason to go again, pop in as I’m sure you’ll be keen to see what new menu items they have 👀👀 the vegan calamari was my fave! Make sure to book a table for date night or with your pals 🫶🏼 #Bristol #StokesCroft #BristolFoodAndDrink #veganuary

July 24 - why have we left it so long!? Again, super friendly helpful staff. Everything we ordered was delicious. Menu changes regularly, and staff can advise. Our favourite, smashed potatoes were slightly different but loved this variation. Sharing board was great. Heritage tomatoes, great. 2 different burgers, both great. Highly recommend the mushroom one (NOT a portobello mushroom) Everything was great! June 23 - Great attentive staff. Quite busy even at 5pm. But food arrived quickly, and every dish (6) was absolutely delicious. At this point, I would normally tell you about the vegetarian choices, but everything is either vegetarian or vegan. Spoilt for choice. Definitely going back.

Possibly one of the worst dining experiencing I have ever had. I traveled to Bristol to see to see a friend I have not seen from the start of pandemic. She recommended the canteen as a great place to eat for veges and vegans, but sadly it was not. We were on there on a Sunday, we ordered one of each roasts (3) as two of us were vegan and one vege. Several larger tables who placed orders much later were served before us, with no check-ins by the staff to our table. After asking 3 times passed the 50 minutes mark when we should expect food, one plate arrived and was stone cold, 10 minutes later when the two other plates arrived we asked for it to be exchanged and almost instantaneously a brand new plate arrived, almost an hour and 10 minutes after placing an order did we all have food in front of us.

The food was okay in quality, but for roasts all over £10+ it was not filling at all where any carvery on a Sunday you'd get huge portions, better quality, with no wait.

With my order I had asked for 3 vegan brownies for dessert. The brownies were delicious but were served with DAIRY ice cream. When raised to a member of staff asking "was this dairy ice cream?" she had asked me "Was it the man with the beard who served you?" When she was the person in question who served me in the first place!!

I have eaten at countless cafés who serve meat, dairy and vegan options but never once at any of those establishments have I been served a non-vegan options when specifically placing an order on vegan food. Nothing was done to mitigate this. Poor customer service, no apologies, no nothing. My partner who was eating with us is severely lactose intolerant and it made her sick. In total I spent just under £45 on food that Sunday and it wasn't even worth a single penny. I know I will never return for food and I will advise my vegan and vege friends who live local to...

Went for a roast and was extremely disappointed. Placed an order ahead of time and was served a cold roast with 2/4 sides missing. Although we preordered the 'leek and cheddar crumble' we were met with confusion as to what we ordered as the menu item is the 'mature cheddar, leek and broccoli crumble'. When we arrived we were told we had made a mistake so all of the items we requested were sold out, although only 2/6 requested the crumble. The other 4 requested nut roast and that was sold out as well. We were very understanding as Canteen is known for their great roasts! We ordered the menu items happily. When served, the food was stone cold. I asked for a refund politely as it was incredibly bland as well as cold. After the manager pretended that the transaction was just fine and apologised profusely, he immediately went to the chef and was pointing and talking about us. Not good food, genuinely rude people working there. The entertainment, however, was awesome with really talented musicians! Huge...

Card only. The last time I was here they charged me nearly six pounds for a mediocre cask pint from BBF. That was on Sunday evening. They have a trade discount that is technically available, but i reality it is pretty impossible to qualify for it. I was told that i would have to show them proof on my phone that I was in the trade, which was impossible because I didn't have my phone on me. (I did have my Gvmt issued alcohol licence handy, but no I needed a whatapp picture of my staff rota apparently.) So despite being one of the most famous pub landlords in the city, I do not qualify. I was with a group of eight others, all of which are in the trade. None of us were able to prove that we were, despite two of them running the better local pubs in the district. What is the point of having a trade offer to attract custom on quiet nights when you make it difficult to get said discount ? We went to The Bell after one drink. Sorry, shall not be...
