Not all pubs are born equal. Some have the benefit of a great location, some are the location, and others have that intangible quality—a vibe that goes beyond the usual. The Grace, perched confidently on Gloucester Road, is born better.
It’s not just the alchemy of its positioning or the weathered brickwork. It’s the curious blend of clientele, décor, and atmosphere that creates the sort of Sunday afternoon experience you didn’t know you needed. People ebb and flow with a brisk regularity, giving the place an energy that feels as though something is always happening, yet you’re never in a rush to see what it is.
The staff? They’ve mastered that fine balance of attentive without hovering, casual yet competent. You feel like they’ve got it all under control—even if you’re slightly convinced they’re having more fun than you. And let’s talk about the Guinness. It’s excellent—that creamy, velvety elixir that too many pubs neglect. But not here. Oh no. It’s properly poured, properly cold, and exactly as it should be. That’s not something you overlook.
We didn’t come to eat, which is something I now regret. The food looked and smelled as if it had been crafted to tease every one of my senses without me ever lifting a fork. Plates wafted by with dishes that seemed to know their place—neither trying too hard nor playing it too safe. It all just… worked.
There are dogs, of course. There’s laughter, the kind that feels contagious but isn’t too loud to be irritating. There are energetic people, the ones who look like they’ve just come from a run, and others who seem like they’ve never run a day in their lives, and both sets coexist perfectly.
Bravo, The Grace. Even if it’s not on your beaten track, go. It’ll restore your faith in what a...
Read moreAfter being told by staff that it was empty and therefore no problem to order food as a walk in..surprise surprise, I encountered the doom monger front of house.
Obviously food would now not be served. Missed it by a second apparently- kitchen closed in an hour’s time though.
It’s my fourth encounter with their hostile front of house; hence the review..I’m not one to play the race card, but it has been odd..
So rude it’s palpable. It’s hard not to take it personally as it’s happened time and time again eg; (no food yet they serve food to other people the last time we were there)..it was embarrassing as we had to ask how they got their food as they had no reservation and arrived after us. Ffs
Hope you read this Chris as the owner; we’re pretty...
Read morePopped in here the other day just for a quick drink to unwind. Was really hoping to get my hands on that local gin I’ve been loving lately, but turns out they didn’t have it in stock. Bit of a bummer, but no biggie.
The atmosphere of the place was quite nice, not too loud, just right for a chill evening. Service was definitely a highlight - the staff were super friendly and quick. Even though they didn’t have the gin, they recommended a couple of other drinks we might like for next time.
We ended up staying longer than planned, just because it was so relaxed and the vibe was good. They had a nice selection of snacks too, which we didn’t try this time but looked tempting. We’ll probably come back to give them a go and who knows, maybe they’ll have that...
