We booked a table for breakfast on a Saturday morning for my nephews birthday. The woman who “greeted” us on arrival was very rude and abrupt and continued in this manner whilst taking drinks and food orders. There were 9 of us, 8 ordered the full English and I asked for poached eggs on toast with extra avocado and bacon. All the fry ups came out with mine arriving last, minus the bacon I’d ordered, the lady serving went to get me some bacon, she came back with it in a bowl and tipped it onto my plate. The bacon, on all the plates, was as tough as the sole of my shoe, it was clear it had been cooked hours before and re heated. My one small piece of toast also seemed like it had been toasted long before I’d ordered it and then re toasted, it was very dry. My poached eggs weren’t runny, the yolk was solid. I was so hungry so I didn’t bother complaining. Half way through eating my sister next to me pulled a small but very sharp piece of wire from her mouth which had been in her food, I took it to the lady who had given us our food to complain. Nobody came over after this, no apology, no explanation, no checking to see if she was ok or if she wanted a new breakfast. The customer service was terrible. The bill came and the breakfast was still on it, I said to someone else I didn’t think it was appropriate that she pay for it and I thought it was awful that no one had come over to apologise. They did take the meal off the bill without any arguments but I don’t think the way it was handled was good enough. We could see the staff were setting up for a wedding, however, if you’re too busy to cook fresh food and deliver good service then you should not be taking restaurant bookings on these days. I would not recommend The Oaks to anyone and I will be sure friends know not to visit also. Very...
Read moreParking was less than Ideal, good sized carpark but not really laid out in the best way, heading towards the entrance we couldn't even pass 2 cars that were parked, and the other route was very narrow. Found spaces very tight. Food was really nice, staff were friendly, but weren't very attentive, we were sat down near access to kitchen door, which wasn't a problem to start with, drink order taken promptly and were asked of we were having the steak night (we were!) We sat there for a while with no idea what we were meant to do as first time customers, whether we were meant to approach the meat counter, or if it was table served, as we were approaching 15 minutes discussing what we were gonna do and if we had to ask someone the drinks and sides were finally brought over and promptly followed by the meat, this is where our seating location became an issue, my seat was hit everytime a member of staff walked past, we even tried moving the tables away from the walk way a bit... this didn't help, infact it was after this a member of staff full on booted my chair leg while passing without apology. Once we had finished eating, we sat with plates in front of us for a while then plates were cleared (not a problem, we weren't in a rush) we asked for a dessert menu, and again after a lengthy wait, the menu arrived, but had got to the point where we were waiting long periods for anything to happen, no one returned to ask if we had made a decision, which considering the foot traffic was suprising so I grabbed the manager and asked for the bill as they passed, again due to lack of explanation as a new customer wad made to feel like an idiot as she told me "yeah that's fine just pay at the bar".
To summarise... food was really good! Staff were lovely, I'm likely to return, but not...
Read moreAbsolute disaster. Came here as a group of 16 people having dinner and drinks. Advertised as the perfect place for bigger parties. Catalogue of things going wrong. All orders were pre booked so you would think they could organise this smoothly. No. far from it. One starter was ordered as a main - but it was brought out with starters Main meals took an absolute age to all be brought out with several orders missing. One meal completely missed and had to be waited for. All side orders came out when everyone was halfway through the meals. Then the sauces came out after that and were way too late.no point whatsoever. Had to ask for extra cutlery. Side salad extra was just a bowl of salad thrown together - no sauce or effort. Steak was supposed to be served with bernaise sause. There was no sauce. Desserts were ok - but the shortbread was cheap shop bought fingers. Service is just young kids who haven’t been trained with not enough experienced staff to make sure it’s all done properly. It’s a lovely venue and place to come with friends - just abused by greedy owners who don’t know how to run the place - just put in cheap labour and no care for the customers spending money. Clearly a catalogue of mistakes but no one has come out to apologise and offer a discount for the...
