We had booked dinner for 19.15, arrived at 19.13 and our table was not ready. My husband ordered the mushroom pie and I ordered steak and ale pie, we were told that they had already run out of steak and ale, so I ordered a rump steak medium done. Dinner arrived in good time, however there was a pool of blood on my plate and when I cut into the steak it was extremely rare. I called our waitress over and explained, she was absolutely lovely and said she would have it changed. My husband tucked into his, to eat it whilst it was hot, he was half way through when my 2nd steak arrived, even rarer than the first. It was recognisable as a different meal as I had eaten some of the other items on the plate. The waitress had asked me to check whilst she waited and said she would speak to the chef again and took my plate away. By this time my husband had finished his meal so I called our waitress back and asked her to cancel my meal. By this time I was quite upset as this was meant to be a treat. At this point the manageress came over and was quite aggressive telling me my meal was ready. She tried to tell me that my 2nd steak had been the same one as the first and that my steak had been cooked for longer, This was a lie. I told her that I didn't want it as it was now too late, we didn't come to a restaurant to eat separately, that if the chef couldn't get 2 steaks right I didn't hold out much hope for the 3rd try. She kept telling me that my steak was ready in the kitchen and was very pushy. I said again that I didn't want it, our evening was ruined and I just wanted to go home, and could we get the bill. Our bill arrived and I said I was willing to pay for our drinks and not our food. She then began to argue loudly saying my husband had eaten his food. I said again that we had come out to enjoy a meal together and they had not been able to manage this. That this was our local and we were regulars, and that it would be a long time before we would consider going there again. I praised our young waitress Lucy and that she was a credit to the team, but that I did not appreciate her attitude. She told me that she would take 25% off our bill and that constituted more than the food bill. Her maths was pretty terrible as that was only 2/3 of the food. Again I said I would pay for the drinks and I just wanted to leave, at this point she tore up the bill and petulantly said to have the drinks on us. We then left with the entire restaurant staring at us. All in all it was a very unpleasant experience. I have never been spoken to like that in a...
Read moreUnfortunately the experience and the way that we were treated means that we will no longer come back to the Rushcutters.
We ordered our mains, to which everything was great, our host came over and cleared our table and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. To which we did. 20 minutes passed and no menus. It just so happend that we still had some items left from our mains that another member of the team (whom I must say clearly did want to be there due to her manner and body language) came over took the remaining items and asked if everything was ok and if we wanted anything else. To which I replied, we have been waiting for the last 20 minutes for your colleague to bring over the dessert menus.
Oh I'll get you some then was the reply we got back.
Guess what....... 20 minutes later still no dessert menus, to which when we asked her again (it was like a Kevin the teenager moment) oh I'll get you some.
To which she did but the way that she presented them to us was just chucked on the table.
To which I then asked if I could see the manager.
About 10 minutes later the manager came over and said I hear you have a problem in a bit of a condescending matter. When I explained the situation (to which he clearly is in the wrong job and you could see he was trembling with nerves) . He said that we could have our desserts on the house. To I stated that it had gone passed that point and we no longer wanted a dessert.
No real meaningful apology, he clearly wanted to get away from us quickly, he just said I'll get you the bill then. And walked off.
Next the female host returned, you didn't want a free dessert so that will be £74.76, Cash or card.
She took payment and went!
At no point did anyone apologise for the experience that we had received.
We have been coming to the Rushcutters on a regular basis for more years than I like to think but we we won't be back.
When we were leaving one of the waiting staff that instantly recognised us stopped us for a chat, unaware of what had happened, did apologise when we told him what had happened. But we again said we are never coming back.
I had to chuckle we we got out side as there was an A frame that said Ben and the team welcome you to the Rushcutters.
Ben if that's how you welcome customers new or returning. You aren't going to have a business...
Read moreTo say that this pub has been quite a special place for our family over a few decades, my Dad was a boatbuilder at an old, now gone, boat yard. We spent many occasions there. Even family friends ran the pub for many years. Seen changes happen there, but always felt like it was a place to reflect on happy memories. So, I feel saddened to write this review. It was our daughter's birthday and she had asked specifically to go there to celebrate. I have mobility issues and had recently upped my medication. On arrival I actually felt a bit unwell due to this and felt really hot. It didn't help that we were seated near a radiator. We asked if the three of us could move. No was the answer but they did turn the radiator down. There was an empty six seater table next to us. Later it only had three people sat there. The waiting staff did seem flustered and rushing about, didn't seem organised. There wasn't any charisma at all from anyone. It felt chaotic. There wasn't much choice on the menu for us. We are pescetarians. We did make a mistake of not realising the Sunday menu would be different. My daughter and I had the sea bass with scallops pea and mint risotto. Scallops seemed raw, Sea bass wasn't cooked well and the skin wasn't crispy. My husband had a veg burger with two slimey onions rings and a handful of limp fries. Deserts were better, although I did say twice it is my daughter's birthday can you do something with her dessert, alot of places would have put a candle in or sing happy birthday or something, But nothing.. What I did witness when the table of six which was three, left, an older gentleman came to clean and reset the table with cutlery. He handled every fork by the prongs and knives by the blade and on two occasions he picked bits off the forks wiped with his fingers and placed on the table ready for the unknowing customer to use. This made me feel sick 🤢 I was glad to leave. Will not be going back in a hurry. The only thing it has going for it; is the pretty building with a beautiful setting shame that's not reflected by the staff, service and food.
We all had a bit of a dodgy tummy the next day Tried to call but you get Claire an automated person. She seemed friendly enough. 🙏🏽🤦♀️🤣 Come on get your...
