This place is an unnasuming little gem on a busy suburban street just waiting for you to discover it! We've been meaning to visit for a good while now as have always been big fans of the takeaway hot food in Banners shop and we were kind of expecting the restaurant to be a similar style... Boy were we wrong! The restaurant is small but has been styled beautifully with lots of natural wood, glossy polished wood, lush purple velvet and amazing artwork. It has a reall chic and cosy feel with a warm welcoming atmosphere. The staff are all friendly and smiley and look like they are genuinely pleased to be there which always adds to the experience. Service was quick and efficient and there was never a time when we felt like we couldn't get a member of staffs attention if we needed to. It is a small restaurant but the menu is quite varied with some interesting options to choose from. While waiting for our meals we watched the chefs in the kitchen working efficiently and professionally and the plates of food coming out to other customers looked amazing. Everything was prepared to a really high standard and presented beautifully on the plate. We shared a baked camembert for starters which was delicious with the lightly toasted bread and pickles. For mains me and my partner both opted for a hanging skewer, i had chicken tikka; he had teriyaki beef (and we shared) and they were both absolutely amazing! The meat was tender and full of flavour - the tikka in particular was outstanding with an unexpected mix of authentic spices that was different to any other tikka i have tried but in a uniquely pleasant way with just enough heat to make your tongue tingle and warm your mouth. It is obviously a bespoke spice mix and very well done at that. The mango salsa was fruity and sweet - the perfect pairing to the rich spicy meat. The beef teriyaki was tender and moist and almost sticky with the marinade which was delicious and the accompanying salad had a really tasty dressing. We finished our meal by sharing a chocolate brownie which was soft and fudgy and delicious. My only critique for the entire experience is that i feel that although the fries were lovely, they didn't really complement the chicken tikka all that well and it would maybe do well with an accompianment of some crispy onion bhajis and a mint yoghurt raita on the side instead. Overall we had a amazing evening dining at Banners and it has quickly made it's way into our favourite places to enjoy an evening meal! We look forward to returning to sample all the other delicious sounding dishes on the menu and will be reccomending to anyone...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I popped into Banners on the off-chance while shopping in the area. Being early afternoon we had the lunch menu to feast our eyes on, and although not as extensive as the evening menu, it still provided plenty of choice depending on one's appetite.
Not being overly hungry, we both opted for tomato & basil soup for starters (very nice and creamy); followed by Classic Cheeseburger and Sweet Potato Fries for myself, and the Steak & Ale pie with chunky chips and onion rings for my partner.
The room was half-full, mostly consisting of office workers having light lunches and senior citizens enjoying tea and cakes. There is heating emanating from a large heater fitted to the ceiling. Given that it was a cold day the heater only benefits sitting directly underneath or a meter or two further out. If you choose one of the tables along the windows or walls you will be lucky to feel any benefit!
Our dinners arrived after 15-20 minutes. All piping hot and a very good serving. My cheeseburger was really excellent - much better than those horrid cardboard efforts from the usual suspects. Of course there is always the question of etiquette eating a burger - do you hold it in your hands or use a knife and fork in the usual way/ Well i opted for the latter, and even though it was a bit fiddly the burger and the chips were gorgeous.
My partner's pie was also well cooked, plenty of meat and gravy, and you could certainly taste the ale. the chunky chips and the mountain of onion rings topped it off!
We didn't have room for dessert, but it was a delightful one hour break, and all for a reasonable £40 for 2. Good good,...
Read moreAmazing food, great service, would have no hesitation recommending "Banners" to friends and family. It's the first time since (covid-19) lockdown me and my partner have been out for a meal and we are so glad we chose "Banners. It was so well set up for the social distancing but at the same time the staff and the restaurant itself didn't make you feel like rules were in place. We had such a relaxing fun time. The music was just right so we could hear each other talk, the waiting on the table always seemed to come at the right time, no rushing or waiting and the food was spot on. All round a perfect night out for a meal. Thank you to all the staff...
