We've eaten at the Corn mill several times in the last few years and have never had a bad meal, I've always recommended to friends. Today's meal started out well, despite the busy atmosphere (we'd had the sense to book in advance) and the staff as always were very helpful - allowing us to order as soon as we arrived with our two young hungry children and seating us early. We ordered from the childrens menu and senior menu for my mum and all were happy with their ample, well cooked meals. My wife is gluten free but they handed him a gluten free menu and he was happy enough, although he wished there was a gluten free naan instead of a couple of slices of gluten free bread to go with his chicken tikka - but that's still better than most places! My only complaint came about because of my meal, I ordered the steak and Ale pie and was very much looking forward to my meat filled pastry but when I cut in I found.....air...a conker sized piece of meat and several cubes of what looked and tasted like sweet potato...A huge disappointment. What was there tasted nice but it certainly wasn't what was described in the menu and my mothers 'senior' steak pudding turned out to have three times the filling at half the price! I decided to let the waiter know but couldn't catch one so approached a man at the till who turned out to be the manager and told him about the pie. He listened politely enough and then his response....'well I don't really know what you expect me to do about it....'. Ummmmm, act concerned, suggest you'll look into it, apologise?? After that he did, as a throwaway insincere comment, offer to take off the cost of the pie and said if more people complained he would look into it, I just went back to my table. After that we all enjoyed some lovely puddings, the cookie dough cheesecake was delicious! So all in all another great meal out, my only...
Read moreI took my cousin for Sunday lunch. We had already booked a table which on a Sunday is advisable as it gets very busy. After being shown to our table, the friendly server Phoebe came over and cleaned our table and topped up the cutlery. We had to wait a while at the bar as an elderly gentleman was taking his time paying. Eventually after about 10 minutes we were served. We chose to order the special which was half roast chicken at £8.99 a vegetarian Wellington around the same price. We had to wait maybe 10 minutes for our dinner but,it came out piping hot and fresh. The vegetables were tender and bright. My pie was flakey pastry and mushroom filling was really hot. My cousin looked at her plate and gasped that she would not be able to manage all that! I would say the portions are good sized dinner plates we use at home. There is a choice of bigger plates too. We didn't need any pudding as we were stuffed. We booked our table for 3pm and was a busy stream of people after us but it tapered off about 4pm. I like the non alcoholic rose wine but unfortunately you have to buy a bottle as it's not by the glass unless you ask specifically if there has been a bottle opened👍then you might get lucky. This place is much better after the recent refurbishment last Autumn. Nip in for a pint and pudding maybe🤭always good to go...
Read moreToday I went to the cornmill with my elderly mother and children. When we arrived we were told that we could sit anywhere. We proceeded to the booth seats they were all reserved so we sat opposite the function room during our meal around 50-60 people attending a wake turned up. We were surrounded by a sea of people and felt very uncomfortable. A few late arrivals assumed we were part of the funeral party it was awkward to say the least. We rushed our food then moved to another part of the pub so the children could have their deserts. I did speak to a manager and explained that this ruined our whole dining experience and made the us and possibly the guests attending the wake feel very uncomfortable. I was not offered a discount and was told that the lady who arranged the wake was a ''regular" I have been coming to the cornmill for years and I think loyalty is irrelevant under these circumstances. A member of mangement said we should have been moved however we were offered no compensation for what had happened not even a drink. I think this is unacceptable and I felt like I had to apologize to the other guests who were greiving the loss of a loved one. I would like this issue to be resolved otherwise I will...
