Would avoid if you have allergies or dietary requirements!!!
Ordered for whole family to pick up and take away from restaurant. Ordered vegetable curry and specified 'vegan please'. This vegetable curry says it only has vegetables. Dad picked order up and brought it home. Vegetable curry arrived with white cubes in it. Thought maybe it's tofu, because we had specified for a vegan option. Tried one of the cubes and it turned out to be paneer (cheese). Luckily I am vegan by choice and do not have an allergy - but for a person with an allergy this could have been a lot more serious.
My dad called the restaurant to confirm its paneer and this is where it just got worse. The member of staff on the phone tried to tell my dad it was potato. Yes there was potato in the curry also, but it's very easy to tell the difference between pieces of potato and cubes of cheese. However the member of staff must have thought my dad was an idiot because he still tried to tell my dad these white spongey cubes were potato. The member of staff then told my dad to drive back to the restaurant and bring the curry with him so they could check if it was potato or cheese and then they would offer a refund or replacement dish. That was their only offer so my dad not wanting any hassle decided he would let his own dinner go cold to drive back to the restaurant to rectify it.
I decided this is not good enough, it's the restaurants mistake and they have already tried to treat my dad like he doesn't know what a potato is so I phoned them myself to try and find a better solution. I spoke to the same member of staff who was instantly defensive, didn't want to listen to what was wrong, and was rude considering it was their mistake and he had already treated my dad in an unsatisfactory way. He offered to send someone out to come and collect the cheese curry and bring a new actually vegan replacement to us. They didn't offer this option to my dad and only offered to me because I told them their previous offer of us having to drive back to them wasn't good enough.
Honestly very disappointed. Restaurants should take allergies and dietary requirements very seriously. You would also expect that a restaurant would want to rectify any mistakes and ensure their customer is satisfied. It's lucky that I didn't have a...
Read moreWe have enjoyed going to Haveli for many years but will never visit again. I have just deleted my 5* review from 3 years ago as this is no longer accurate.
Not sure what has changed (I suspect new manager), the food used to be great, now is not good enough to justify their price (even with discount).
But like other reviews in last 6 months mention, it’s the customer service that is really terrible. We used to feel well looked after, like they cared, but they made us feel like dirt they wanted rid off, totally unacceptable.
They advertise special offers to get people in there (but still nearly empty at 7pm on Thursday evening), they keep changing conditions throughout the meal saying we needed to order more food to get discount (eg for 2 people with a 6 year old they made us order 5 rice / Nans and spend £67 on just the main course to “qualify” for discount).
However, when the bill came, they just set it down on the table without any discount or explanation, When I quired this we were told we had not spent enough on drinks, so they were not honouring the discount. I explained this is not a condition of the offer and is different to what was confirmed when we ordered, After some debate the best he would do was ½ price only on the extra nans and rice they told us we had to order to qualify for the discount, not the rest of the meal
He would not let us talk; just kept talking over / down to us. He was of the opinion that by us trying to use a special offer they advertised (and we confirmed at time of ordering) we were bad people trying to take advantage of him. When we asked to speak to the manger, he said he was the manger and that we were banned from ever returning and he never wanted to see our faces again. It really destroyed our evening.
On the way out we bumped into one of the directors (who is lovely and been working there for years). He conformed that it’s nonsense what we were told and was no reason we were not eligible for the discount and overruled the mangers ban and told us we are welcome back any time, but the damage had already been done...
Read moreReview of Haveli in Chilwell
Had a fantastic dining experience at Haveli Fine Dining in Chilwell. The service was outstanding staff were very polite and attentive. The restaurant itself was clean, well-maintained, and had a nice, welcoming atmosphere.
About the Restaurant:
Haveli is an Indian fine dining restaurant located at 10 Attenborough Lane, Chilwell, Nottingham. It is known for its authentic home-cooked Indian cuisine, expertly prepared tandoori dishes, and a stylish yet comfortable dining environment. The menu features a mix of classic curries, sizzling grills, and chef’s specials, catering to both traditional and modern tastes.
Food Review:
For starters, I had:
Prawn Puri – Marinated prawns lightly sautéed and served in a hot puri bread wrap. Delicious and well-seasoned.
Seekh Kebab – Skewered, char-grilled lamb mince with chopped green chillies, fresh coriander, and mint. Packed with flavor and cooked perfectly.
For mains, I went with:
King Prawn Karahi – Juicy king prawns and peppers cooked in a spicy tomato sauce with garlic, herbs, and chillies in an open iron karahi. The sauce was rich, aromatic, and full of depth.
Haveli Khazana – A selection of chicken tikka, lamb tikka, malai tikka, and seekh kebab, all grilled in the tandoori oven. The meats were tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor—nothing was dry or overcooked.
Tastecard Offer:
Haveli offers a 2-for-1 discount for Tastecard members, making it an even better deal for a high-quality dining experience. The offer is valid Tuesday to Thursday but does not apply on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, bank holidays, or during December. It's recommended to call ahead to confirm availability. ( 2 for one discount for me was 29.95 )
Final Thoughts:
The food was excellent, full of authentic flavors, and well-presented. The combination of great service, high-quality ingredients, and a well-curated menu makes Haveli a must-visit for Indian food lovers. I’d definitely recommend it and will be...
