The Nuthall had a very lovely atmosphere that gears itself to adult meals. Our waitress was very prompt and was able to answer questions about the menu options when asked and was generally polite throughout our stay although did not often smile and was very minimal in her interactions with us and other customers in her service area. Would advise that something as small as introducing herself and saying, "Welcome to the nuthall, have you been before?" When customers first meet the staff would give a more welcome feel to the service than simply "can I get you drinks?". We still don't know her name after leaving. However, food was prompt, and she ensured we had what we needed to enjoy the meal.
The starters we had wild mushrooms for myself and the chicken wings for my husband were absolutely delicious. The mushrooms, in particular, were well balanced with the rosemary foccaci and cream, which allowed for the flavour of the wild mushrooms to come through perfectly.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly for his main, and I selected the sole. Both mains were on the whole very nice with the lemon and capers complimenting the sole very well. Unfortunately, the new potatoes served with this were quite dry and required water on hand to eat. However, this did not stop the sole being an enjoyable meal.
For dessert, my husband chose the brownie, which was a rich and very dark tasing brownie with a very stodgy texture, exactly as a brownie should be, and the portion of brownie was very generous in size. I had the crème brûlée which to be honest, was not as good as I had hoped given the level of food from the other courses. The custard base had some lumps and needed more vanilla bean paste to bring the flavour through, and whilst the sugar needed to be caramelised, there were areas that were scorched causing a bitter taste. However, as a side piece, the home made shortbread served with the crème brûlée was light buttery and soft which saved the dish overall.
Overall I would say the nuthall is a lovely adult pub and I must say the overall quality of the food was excellent and good...
Read moreThis venue has recently been refurbished. It has an upmarket decor throughout, giving it a cosy feel ideal for a romantic meal for two or a family / friends group. A flat car park, which makes it ideal for disabled dining and additional seating areas covered and uncovered for outdoor dining.
For large groups, you need to book your meal choices a couple of weeks prior, which is common policy. But it can be a disadvantage if you want to swap items, e.g, mushy to garden peas, adding sides, etc.. so think through your choice before phoning them through or correct then as you arrive. It is a popular venue. For example, Christmas day booking needs to be 18 months to a year in advance.
We were a large group, and many had 3 courses, so a group with varying opinions about the food served, hence the 4 stars as we have different tastes.
The starter favourites were the chefs, homemade soup, the pork ribs, and my wild mushrooms in a white sauce were lovely, too.
Our favourite mains were... the vegetarian Lentil & Squash Wellington, the 1/2 a chicken and the homemade pies- steak & ale and my chicken & ham pie, It was very tasty, with a good amount of pie filling, it was served with mash potatoes, carrots, and a tiny portion of beans. The least popular was the fish and chips, as the fish was dry, and the Pork Porchetta was left by one, as it was too greasy for the guest's taste.
The dessert favourite was Apple & berry crumble with custard. The brownie, although nice, it was spoilt by the large amount of chocolate sauce over it, both guest thought there was too much sauce, which spoilt the experience. Maybe if the chocolate sauce was served in a mini jug instead so the guest could control the amount, it would be a positive improvement.
Overall, this is a lovely venue, with friendly, helpful staff and a good selection of quality food for an array of tastes. We would definitely recommend the Nuthall pub and...
Read moreNot been here in a long time and it was still as good as ever. My friend has 2 courses for £22.95 I think it was good value for money cause a main is £15-£25ish ( more expensive end being steak) and puddings were £6-£8ish so if you were looking at having 2 courses it's well worth it. I had the beef sandwich £10.95) and chips and ordered a side of black pepper sauce. Beef was cold sliced and rare which I really enjoyed as I like my beef rare. I have blackpepper sauce pretty much everywhere I eat where it's available and this one was soooooooo good. Really good pepper kick, rich, small diced onion, on the runnier side but the flavour really packed a punch. Forgot to get any photos other than dessert the baked cookie dough with vanilla icecream, fudge pieces, and chocolate hazelnut sauce 😋. So rich, so sweet, but if that's your thing, it was oh so good.
Little service touches that can lack at some places werent lacking here. When we didn't order starters our starter Cutlery was taken away straight away, we were offered another drink mid meal, asked if we wanted sauces when our mains were served. At the end of the meal we were asked if we enjoyed it and had a nice time and to enjoy the rest of our evening! Little touches and I noticed them and they were...
