I find it annoying that people complain about the froth on a coffee, the cheese on toast etc as if they are some world famous food critic. Try running a small business, particularly one that involves catering!! Your comments, worthless though they are can have a profound impact so let's do a real review. Here's what I think. Coffee Cali is a clean, hospitable coffee shop in a great location. I can't comment on the food because we only had coffee but it was a very welcome perfectly acceptable coffee at a reasonable price. It was served quickly with a smile and some pleasantries. Sat outside on the courtyard was a delight. OK, even though it may be wet now, the sun was shinning, the company was relaxed and congenial with different people from locals, tourists, cyclists and hikers all enjoying themselves and chatting amicably. What I really appreciated was for those who were with dogs, staff appeared with bowls of water. We had no time to go inside other than to use rest rooms which were well above the average. Our stop was great, especially after having spent over an hour crossing " 't top ot world ova 't Pennines" for a little piece of classic old world Yorkshire. Add to that the stress of finding a parking space in one of the many but small and well hidden car parks. Thank you Coffee Cali. I didn't take any pictures other than one of the road. There are some other pics of...

Visited on the Wednesday between Christmas and New Year. Located in the centre of town on the pedestrian area, at the side of the river. Has a cottagey feel with a small number of tables as you enter and steep narrow stairs leading to a few more tables and the toilet. From upstairs there are views of the bridge, river and a seating area. We ordered lattes, a cappuccino and a hot chocolate with all the trimmings. The lattes were piping hot but the other 2 drinks were only warm. Our paninnies and toasted sandwiches were quite nice, I think the latter being made from a bloomer. Our only complaint relates to a group of young local girls and 1 boy (but he didn't say very much), who took up a table well after they had finished their drinks, to discuss very noisily and with extremely choice language, a variety of subjects. Luckily we had no children with us. On leaving one of our group mentioned to the waitress that it had been a bit off-putting. She replied that the staff downstairs had been able to hear them but there was nothing they (the staff) could do. Sorry, they should have been told to either stop swearing or leave. That spoilt a quite nice lunch and left us with a poor impression of the cafe and some of the girls of the town, hence my only...

A lovely sunny day, table outside, perfect for a coffee and a chill... so you would think. But. My flat white was bitter and way too strong. I understand strength is subjective, but it's my regular choice so I was surprised. But no problem, I popped inside (no queue) to ask if they wouldn't mind giving me some hot water so I could let it down. The look of disdain on the servers face was an absolute picture... and I was told that 'flat whites taste like that'! So I said ok, but it's still a little strong for me, please can I have some hot water, at which point she turned to a colleague and said 'you deal with that' as if I was a pile of muck. Absolutely flabbergasted at the attitude. Maybe they had a hangover or just in the middle of a bad day, but having scrolled thru the reviews I'm not the only one to notice a similar vibe. Normally I keep my mouth shut unless I've got something nice to say, but this was just too rude to ignore. Management, if you are reading this, please have a word with your team cos they are...

There are a few coffee shops in town and we chose this one based on previous reviews. Managed to get a nice table downstairs by the window. Good selection of drinks/food/cakes. I got a latte which was very nice. My wife doesn't drink coffee and asked if she could just get a steamed milk with syrup in. The girl serving didn't even pause and just said 'of course' which was greatly appreciated. We also got a Bakewell slice which was good, and also a piece of the salted caramel coffee cake, which was really good. Big piece and really fresh tasting cake with good flavour. They have a few more tables upstairs as well as a toilet. Would definitely recommend this place.
