Visited the cafe with the family. Cafe is in a good location to relax and watch the world go by. Unfortunately the lovely exterior and interior of this cafe did not match the service we experienced. Only ordered beverages and a cake and was very disappointed. The latte ordered was wrong (missing the syrup) but not the end of the world, it was still ok. The milkshakes were half full with milkshake the other half squirted cream, not sure if this is how it is suppose to be! The big issue was a cake ordered did not arrive with the drinks. I left it 10 mins and asked where the cake was only to be told they were busy (not sure what their definition of busy means, as the cafe had a few tables empty). This was late in the day with few people in the cafe, the cake only had to be taken from the display cabinet and brought out!. A task which I believe takes 2 mins. 20 mins had passed went into the shop to find all 4 girls chatting behind the counter, requested the cake I had ordered only to be asked by the same girl who had served me not more than 30 minutes ago ' have you paid for it?'. Then had to run through my bill to reassure the young girl I had. It was this moment that I became dissatisfied with the service. The cake wasn't the best, but my daughter was happy with it. There is grounds for improvement in service and staff attitude. I could make excuses for their level of service and say it was late afternoon I went in the cafe, it was busy (when it wasn't) or it had possible been a busy day for the staff and they were tired or there was young girls managing the coffee shop but they would be poor excuses as I had only ordered drinks and a cake not a meal. A shame as the exterior of the shop gives you a positively false illusion of how your experience will be. Hope improvements are made has it is a very nice cafe both...
Read moreI couldn't think where this was at first, we were sat right next to the sign 😂. Yes go, it's relaxing in the open air, staff are very amusing and friendly, they know their stuff and can turn out some terrific coffee. As someone who is a qualified barista it's clear to me that they regularly recalibrate their coffee machine, which will be twice or three times per day depending on the fluctuation in atmospheric temperature, I know that this may sound a bit ridiculously excessive, but believe me it makes a difference in how the actually tastes. I had noticed that you get the aroma as well as the taste whilst drinking the coffee (it may well be of interest to find out who the roaster is) which only a qualified barista can achieve. I also had noticed that in this café the staff are meticulously clean showing great attention to detail, the same detail is applied to the food which arrives on the plate care is taken to arrange it in a attractive manner as one might expect in a Michelin style restaurant if they offered baked potato and beans, it's sounds amusing but it actually true. No I'm not a member of the family nor am I the proprietor whole, part or sleeping, I am a genuinely satisfied customers who needs to shout out about this truly rare find and hope it will encourage other cafés to make the same sort of effort....
Read moreEgg gate… Our visit to Square One Coffee Company. Eggcitedly we set off on our weekly bike ride to the cafe. After a long ride we were eggsausted but looked forward to our weekly fry up. With menu in hand we scanned looking for our usual order. What! no eggs (fried or poached) surely this is a yolk. Our heads were scrambled, what were we to do? the person serving on gave us the news we didn’t want to hear. We now have a new menu and only do scrambled eggs. Come omelette we said has Edwina Currie got anything to do with this? We were shell shocked, eggsasperated, surely this can’t be. But yes for now it’s the end of the egg at the cafe. This is a cock up we all said, he will chicken out and put them back on the menu again soon. They will end up with egg on their face, we were spitting feathers. How were we going to coop. We wont be beaten we said. Lets Peahen a letter to the local council. News to other cafes soon spread: a large cycling group are looking for somewhere new to eat… we were being poached. They even offered eggstra items if we came. Will eggs be put back on the menu or will we have to raw in to the sunset to find...
