Leila's Kitchen — Restaurant in Calderdale

Prices were high. Food was OK - not too bad, nor great, more like fast food quality than homemade, as claimed. They pride themselves on fresh artisan bread. My bread was served with some spread which tasted like margarine. Even the best of breads would be ruined by serving it with margarine. Atmosphere wasn't that great either. Plastic table cover was extremely filthy to touch. Toilet was damp and freezing, the waiting area near toilet was full of mold. Not healthy environment whatsoever. The eating area was full of smoke, which was irritating my throat. I couldn't wait to get out of there. You wait at the door with masks. You get temp checked first, then give your details. There is hand sanitizer upon entrance. We were seated with space in between us all. We were served us I.g very safe handling techniques, so scrupulous I have not seen this level of very good on point distancing and proper x licence to reduce virus spread. Steamers were used. We had vegetarian breakfasts, perfect and perfect poached eggs. Free coffee with this which was rich. Then after we had Turkish coffee and baklava because this restaurant/cafe has Persian foods also. Being on a Persian bent at the moment, when we wondered past this place around lunchtime, I couldn't stop myself. It didn't disappoint. A family run, friendly, relaxed atmosphere. From being greeted by the owner on arrival to chatting about tabbouleh (and its many variations) on departure.

The menu was varied & authentic. I had one of the specials, Sweet potato dhal. As with the dishes of the area nice subtle & unique flavours.

I find Persian food (beng that wee bit further east) a refreshing change from Mediterranean fayre. You can taste the influence of the sub continent & ancient eastern empires.
