Mother Hubbard’s — Restaurant in Calderdale

At Mother Hubbard’s I ordered Special Fish and Chips. They do have other variety of food like burgers, sausage and pies. They had a variety of drinks and slushes. It took them four to five minutes to serve me my order. It cost around 10.95£. The food was lovely, and delicious The portion size served was great. The fish was thick, huge, and hot. The batter of fish was crisp, and well coated around the fish but not overly battered. The fish meat was cooked to perfection with beautiful white colour. The fish type was Haddock. The chips portion was great and cooked well not too crunchy or burned. The Chips were slightly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The staff working there is courteous, warm, well-mannered and radiated positive energy. Their style made the service look so good. The ambience of this place is warm with warm lights and colours. The seats were comfortable and like the fast food eating place. Wall had pictures telling about the history of this town, with descriptions of the landmarks and the building constructed in the city during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Quite hit and miss, sometimes the fish isn't that great and other times it's good. I give 1 star as I went during lockdown last year and I'm exempt from wearing a mask but the fish fryer at the back (probably manager) told me I needed a letter from my GP which was totally false and not required by law (GPs don't give these letters by the way which I tried explaining as I even showed him my NHS exemption from my phone) as other supermarkets and shops have never said this to me upon showing the NHS exemption and he said he'd let me off this time (again, totally out of order, talking to me like I'm a child, I'm almost 30!). The worst part, he didn't even walk to the counter to talk to me like a civil being, he made it a scene and was raising his voice from the back which embarrassed me really as all the staff and customers watched in silence. I hadn't visited since this experience until after lockdown and all restrictions had been lifted recently as I just didn't want to go through arguing with him again over something quite simple, this horrible experience just put me off visiting completely. Oh and they don't do NHS discount unlike the Bradford Leeds Rd branch...

Went on line google search came up with Mother Hubbards Halifax menu, clicked and there was Sunday Special £9.99. 2 x Fish and chips + sides + drinks, so sent my girlfriend (who's idea it was) off with a tenner to get this. On arrival she was told this offer is years old and they gave her 2 fish "complimentary chips" i.e not very many, and 2 sides. Maybe I had by now a sour taste in my mouth by now but they were really substandard and the mushy peas which had a nuclear green colour where too salty to eat. Looking again at the offer in very small print at the bottom it apparently expired in 2015! So why on earth is it still on the web? A decent establishment would have honoured this advert. For health and environmental reasons I only eat Fish&Chips once in a blue moon and it will be back to a traditional Yorkshire...
