First time visiting the area (which is beautiful!) and stopped here for brunch. We grabbed the only table that had space for 4 which was full of empty plates etc from the previous people. We had to ask for the table to be cleared but ended up taking the dishes in to them ourselves because nobody was coming out to clear/clean the table.
Ordered American pancakes, loaded wedges, brie walnut & grape sandwich, and a chicken & bacon bagel, with a pot of tea, an iced coffee, a san pellegrino, and a tropical smoothie.
The pancakes were average. Not enough berries in my opinion, but the berries that weee on there tasted fresh. The sandwich was totally bland. Wedges and bagel were average, we have definitely had better. The smoothie was gross - it was lumpy and had an awful aftertaste so we asked to swap it for a can of coke. And the tea, despite being in a pot, was cold.
The service was honestly simply awful. Aside from the fact that we had to clear the table ourselves, the girl that waited our table barely said a word to us. When we asked to swap the smoothie she just walked off and brought a coke back without a single word. When she brought our food, she came over and just looked at us as though waiting for us to shout out what we had ordered for her. We then had to wait for her to bring out cutlery etc.
The only reason the atmosphere was good was thanks to the general mood of the square and the man playing the guitar just outside the cafe.
Would not come back to eat the next time we visit this...
Read moreWe have sat here before when visiting hebden for a coffee and loved the location so decided to dine here for lunch. Prices aren't cheap but what you expect to pay due to location and rising costs etc. What you don't expect is to pay £7 for a half filled sandwich on totally stale (crispy- I thought it had been toasted!!) bread with a tiny portion of pepper and cabbage 'salad', not the leafy salad and coleslaw that was confirmed by the waitress. The sandwich was worse than I've had in meal deals from Tesco. Would have mentioned before eating but none of the members of staff did a follow up or come out for me to raise any issues - in fact we made the effort to come in and speak to them. Staff (two young girls and a lad) just seem totally miserable to be there. My girlfriend had a jacket potato with cheese and beans which was fine (albeit hard to mess up!) but again was served with a measly little side salad. We told the waitress upon leaving about issues and were given two cakes. Nice thought but doesn't exactly make up for the poor experience we had to end our Hebden holiday. An...
Read moreDecided to pop in on bank holiday Monday as I've walked past numerous times before and it seems very popular. The food was fine. It wasn't reinventing the wheel but was perfectly edible and there was a good variety of food on the menu. Sadly the service and cleanliness of the cafe let it down. The cafe was slightly busy (bank holiday so many people visit hebden) and there were 5 members of waitressing/barista staff. Despite there being many people working the tables weren't being cleaned or wiped down between customers so were filthy as was the floor where people had spilled or dropped food. There were numerous points through our visit when a lot of the staff were just stood milling about and not doing anything so lack of time to clean wasn't a factor. If you've time to chat and mess about on your phone you can wipe a table. There were 2 members of staff who seemed very pleasant and seemed to be rushed off their feet yet the rest were very abrupt with people and it very much came across like it was an inconvenience for them to serve us. I felt really bad for the 2...
