Now called the Milestone. I've stayed before. Really nice room with kitchenette. Warm when we figured out the boiler. There's no microwave but we used the oven anyway. There's also a good sized Co op close by if you want to eat in your room and not in the pub. Access also with extra key so no need to go thru the pub. Only slight downside was the noise from the kitchen fan and smell of the fryers even with the windows closed. This was only for a short time though. Good supply of coffee and Yorkshire Teabags. Staff lovely and a nice Guinness as we arrived really early. They'd got the room ready for us hours before the usual check in. Stairs to room and also through outside access. I wasn't aware of any disabled access. Well be back once again for sure.

Great place to stay but can be noisy (other guests) at the weekend. Comfortable, warm and modern rooms but shower would be tight for larger guests. Good place for a walking holiday base. Excellent menu and great food, well priced as are the drinks. Check the breakfast choice to make sure it suits you. It's on the main road so can be noisy during rush hour but I wear earplugs so didn't bother me. Would stay again. Oldest pub in Yorkshire just across the road, it's great to 😁.

Went for a Sunday meal and was pleasantly surprised with the whole setup. Obviously an old pub that has been modernised. When you walk through its modern bar and open kitchen are a nice site. The menu is tapas with some other random dishes like the chicken kebab which I had. Which was a chicken on a skewer with a couple of small pieces of bread. Not brilliant flavours. The potatas bravas was nice, as well as the chorizo.

My Mum has just stayed for a couple of nights having travelled from London to visit us. Rooms need rethinking. Beautiful furniture, and very clean. However, think that the proprietor needs to actually stay in one of the rooms to judge the functionality. Room and bathrooms would only need a couple of tweaks to improve the stay so much. Such as a chair in the bedroom, shelf in the bathroom. Noone wants to leave their toiletries on top of the toilet. Also a leaking toilet, stemmed by towels. Highlighted to the cleaner who highlighted this to management as noone around till 4pm when the pub opened. Problem not fixed during stay, but appreciate due to time of year this may have not been possible. Also no hamper breakfast this morning so as we live locally Mum came back to ours in SB so we could make her something after check out, prior to train back to London. Cleaner was lovely, helpful and apologetic. However when advertised as B n B that's what you quite rightly expect to get. Wouldn't stay again unfortunately, but with a few tweaks and more personalisation we may recommend. Recommended by a friend who owns a B n B in Ripponden, but as they were on hols booking with them was not possible.

  • Edit * 7 months later we would NOT recommend even if ' tweaks' were made. Despite my review 7 months ago, and my Mother emailing numerous times, no one has bothered or had the courtesy to even acknowledge the issues she encountered or get back to her. Shocking customer service. Hopefully next time my Mum visits from London she can stay in the usual B & B in Ripponden which is...

Stopped for a night while on a camper tour of the north and wanted to have a treat for our last night. Rooms: spotless and comfortable room with tea, coffee, telly and shower gel etc. Bed was cosy and the walk in shower was next level on the water pressure, much to our delight. Breakfast was left outside the room before bed in a cute basket and consisted of fruit, porridge, fresh croissants, butter and jam. Enjoyed being able to eat at our leisure.

Pub: we arrived around 6pm exhausted from a day hiking and driving. Was pleased to see a nice varied and well priced menu. I had a big bowl of pasta which tasted lovely. Attentive owner and staff. Pub shut at 10pm but could take a drink to room if you wanted. We were knackered but could have easily sat down til wee small hours so definatley not a bad thing. Parking: pub is on main busy road with small frontage. Free parking available up the road but we parked in the car park just behind that's very very cheap and free over night. You can pay online so no need to get up at 8am. Details on the side of the meter and would be about 90p from 8am to check out time or about 2 quid for the day if you want to explore locally.

Overall this is a great little inn with a personal homely feel. Amazing value for money and would def recommend for business, couples or friends. It's also really dog friendly in the pub and rooms. I've taken a star off location as it's a very busy road and our dog is old and blind so it was a bit challenging for the night time wee walk but this is...

UPDATE 22/02/20

Sadly, things haven't got better. The menu seemed to have been reduced even further since the last time we were there and there were no specials whatsoever. The wine list was limited and not particularly good value.

The service was still very good and the staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

All in all, The Lion has lost it's edge and the crowd is definitely younger and the atmosphere more bar like now, rather than the great restaurant it used to be.

I think Ripponden in general has lost its mojo from a few years back.

UPDATE 16/09/18

The menu has changed pretty dramatically since the last time we visited with far less choice on the tapas menu and they seem to have re-introduced more typical pub food such as burgers and steaks. I'm not sure whether they have new owners but the menu is sadly worse for these changes.

The tapas we had was still very good but just limited and NO paella! That was the best thing on the menu! Gutted.

Still good service though and a nice atmosphere but they need to bring back a better choice as 7 or 8 main tapas dishes plus a couple of specials does not equal a tapas restaurant.

1st REVIEW

Fantastic food (particularly the paella) & service at Hito Ripponden. The wine list is a little limited as they tend to stick to Spanish regions & grape varieties but that's understandable considering the cuisine. We still had a great bottle of cava, which isn't available on many wine lists nowadays due to the popularity of prosecco.

We'll definitely...
