WILDGOOSE • Ripponden — Restaurant in Calderdale

Really disappointed. Called in to a near empty cafe just after 11 following a football session with my family and asked if they had a table for us to get a drink. We were told we could have one of the couches but they’d need it back for 12:20. No problem we thought an hour to drink a coffee, easily done. However, within 5 minutes of our scolding coffees arriving and before they’d had chance to cool, we were told they’d need the table back for quarter to as they’d made a mistake. This was at 11:35. Both myself and my girlfriend reluctantly finished our drinks and made our way to the exit. As I stood by the counter waiting to pay I was asked by the lady who clearly seemed to be in charge if I was alright to which I replied I’d like to pay. Not so much as an apology or even an acknowledgment of what had happened. Not sure why we were treated this way although I suspect that in our sports gear we didn’t meet the image of their desired customer. This was in complete contrast to the week before when I’d called in for 2 take away coffees, more smartly dressed, and received numerous apologies for the delay in my lattes arriving. I called in today with my Wife, two of our friends and their small dog (who was made very welcome and received a lot of fuss) The food we were served was amazing, as is the decor… such a beautiful & relaxing cafe. Despite being busy, the owner took the time to chat to us, as did the Manageress. The Chef was very friendly too & even brought us our food herself, a lovely personal touch. Love this place, we have been a few times & we always get brilliant customer service whoever we speak to. We had a full English breakfast today & it was delicious, an Americano with oat milk & just had to take home some cake for later. I absolutely recommend the lemon drizzle cake. I know the owner has put a lot of effort into the decor & it shows, it’s such a nice place to be. I know everyone is feeling the pinch atm but helping out local small businesses is so important.
