Our experience at The Ivy Brasserie, Cambridge was nothing short of outstanding. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warm smiles and impeccable service that lasted until the very end of our visit. The entire team was genuinely friendly and attentive, making us feel completely at ease throughout our afternoon.

A very special mention goes to Thomas, who made our first Afternoon Tea experience truly unforgettable. My sister and I had never had Afternoon Tea before, and when I told him, he took the time to explain everything with patience and kindness. I even showed him a TikTok video of an Afternoon Tea presented with steam, and he laughed warmly and said with a big smile: “Don’t worry, it comes with all of that!” His joy was contagious, and it felt as though he was just as excited for us as we were.

The restaurant itself is absolutely enchanting. The décor is elegant yet cozy, with stunning floral details everywhere that create a magical and welcoming atmosphere. The interiors combine charm, comfort, and sophistication, perfect for relaxing over a long tea or a special meal. Every detail, from the table settings to the beautiful flower arrangements, feels carefully thought out to elevate the experience.

This was my very first Afternoon Tea, and it truly exceeded all expectations. I can say with certainty that it won’t be my last and The Ivy Brasserie will forever be the place I remember for this beautiful memory.

✨ Thank you Thomas and the entire team for making me and my sister feel so welcome. You turned a simple afternoon into a very special...

It was our anniversary dinner and our first proper date since having a baby. We were looking forward to it all week. Our waitress was nice and despite getting our order slightly wrong we didn’t complain as she amended it quickly. However, it was badly spoiled once we put our forks down and my partner went to visit the washroom. Another waitress came over to clear the plates and started asking me if we wanted anything else. I explained that my partner was visiting the washroom and I didn’t know if we would have deserts yet as I was waiting for him to make a decision. The waitress bluntly said that I need to order more drinks or desserts or vacate the table as it’s a busy day for them and people are waiting for tables! We just had a two course dinner and were there less then an hour. This made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. To be honest I wasn’t sure what to do, I’ve never had experienced this before. I understand they are running a business but this is crossing the line! When my partner came back and I told him what just happened he complained to our waitress and she was very apologetic, however instead of smoothing the situation she has called the other waitress to apologise which wasn’t the best response. The other waitress was very insistent that she did everything right and said that it’s their process. Once you finished your dinner you promptly expected to leave! They ended up taking service charge off the bill which we much rather would’ve paid had our special meal out not been spoiled like that. If you want a relaxing or special meal avoid...

I have never left a negative review before, but I must say this was the worst service experience I’ve ever had. The restaurant failed to resolve a very simple issue: they got steak’s doneness wrong, yet insisted on charging us for both steaks and claimed that we had ordered incorrectly.

To be honest, I can totally understand if it was miscommunication, and we don’t even mind if we are told in advance that changing the steak would mean extras. However, we are pretty sure that we ordered with clear requirements, and the fault was not from our side: I ordered a medium with no blood and my friend ordered a normal medium, but we got two with no blood.

When dealing with bills, the manager’s attitude was unacceptable. He told my female friend to “keep silence”, explicitly saying that only my male friend who met the specific situation could talk to him. He also said to us, “That’s it, pay the bill, I have other customers,” as if we weren’t customers deserving of proper responsibility and respect.

In the follow-up communication, the team even shifted the blame onto us, saying our attitude was poor. If there were surveillance cameras in the restaurant, it would clearly show that we remained polite both when speaking with the server and while discussing the bill issue. Our voice was not higher than manager’s. We didn’t receive any apologies about this attitude, and they still believe they can treat customers like that.

Paying money only to endure such treatment is truly disappointing, and I’ll be avoiding this place...

First visit: Alice & Wonderland themed Afternoon Tea on a Saturday afternoon in November. It was brilliant! I loved that our coats were taken on arrival. I was shocked at how noisy the restaurant was! Tables are fairly close together. Our afternoon tea was absolutely lovely, although I’d have liked additional savoury options, it was mainly sweets. A really beautiful venue, I’ve included photos. The service wasn’t the best, the waiter kept trying to take our afternoon tea stand away, when we were still eating. He moved our cupcakes, without asking! Great price, £30ish each. I couldn’t finish mine, so was given a box to take the remainder home. Which stayed fresh for the following day. All in all, a beautiful but busy restaurant. I’ll be returning at some point. Second visit: A Sunday afternoon in September for afternoon tea. Salmon and cream cheese buns were amazing. A real generous amount of cream cheese. Fruit scones were great too, I loved the sugar dusting. 4 deserts: vanilla and strawberry jam muffin 10/10. Cream brulee made a nice change and suppose the cream bomb did too. It was handy that the truffles were boxes, great to take home if you can’t manage it all like us! A great choice of hot drinks or champagne. All in all a lovely venue, great service and a lovely well presented afternoon tea. I’d prefer more savoury to it though. It’s £41 ish including the service charge. I’ve added some photos. Imagine I’ll be back again at some point.

Service: Fast, attentive service. Waiters are switched on, observant and really know their job. Drink, food orders and other requests are immediately handled. Attentive and not pushy. They’re smartly turned out and polite. I’d even say, quite slick in their service. Food: Excellent menu, sophisticated and well blended layers of flavour, texture and presentation well executed with care any attention. Some dishes have an element of theatre in their presentation. Steaks are well cooked. Cuts are pretty good. Sirloin excellent. Rib eye on the bone not worth the extra (go with the sirloin) due to fat content. Taste is bang on par. Coffee and Stilton are also par excellence. Atmosphere: 1930’s art deco / almost dada colourful style. Good linen. Good silverware and crockery in keeping with the whole experience. Candle lit tables by evening and the lights lower by the hour. The atmosphere is relaxed yet somewhat formal. Easy to have a good time. Summary: class but not pretentious. Not Michelin star - but not as common and bland as your normal chain, even the nicer ones. Great food. Great complimentary service. Restrooms have the scent of amber. Service charge is steep - and automatically added to your bill. Recommended, for a treat as it is expensive for what you are getting (dinner). Particularly recommended if you like your food and wish to be treated extremely well in surroundings that deliver on what you’d say “is a seriously nice place”.
