Amorino Gelato - Cambridge — Restaurant in Cambridge

Sad to write this as I was a big fan of Amorino and visited multiple times while living in Cambridge. On the 30th December myself and my partner visited the store, hoping to order a gelato waffle. After ordering on the machines we noticed a glitch, whereby the machine charged us for the gelato waffle (£9.70) and didn't send the order through to the front desk. After mentioning this to the staff we were told to order again as it likely didn't go through. We trusted the staff and ordered again, yet the same error occurred. Both £9.70 payments were deducted from my bank account and I clearly showed the staff this. The staff then mentioned that the order had not gone through and we needed to order again. We were told this was likely due to an issue with the debit card, so my girlfriend put an order through, with the same glitch occurring. She too was charged £9.70 yet the order didn't go through. After this happening three times we mentioned to the staff at the desk that we had been charged multiple times and asked for a refund. This did not take place as the staff reassured us the payments would not go through and would likely bounce back.

However, after leaving and checking our accounts a week later we noticed the payments had indeed been processed and the money (£29.10) had been deducted. We re-visited the store, passed our bank account details and contact details to the staff and were reassured that we would be given a refund. Two weeks passed and nothing occurred, so in January we walked back to the store and were once again told it was being refunded. This never took place, despite clear evidence of money being deducted and the staff acknowledging that there was an error with the machines on the 30th December. It's now May and we haven't received anything. It almost felt like a scam, being told multiple times we would be refunded and that we had to wait, yet never receiving any money back. The workers did not seem genuine and clearly lied to us about the refund going through.

Prior to this I'd had nothing but good impressions of the Amorino shop, visited it a few times a month in 2023/2024 and had never once experienced poor service. The ice cream was always nice and the late opening hours meant it was easy to head down there after work.

My opinion has changed massively due to this poor treatment and I haven't visited since the glitches on the 30th December. I would have happily returned had the refund been processed but feel scammed by the staff and the machines. I had my first delightful experience at the new Italian gelato shop in Cambridge- Amorino, and I must say it was truly amazing! The moment I stepped in, I was greeted by a wide selection of flavours, each more enticing than the last. It was a tough choice to make, but I finally settled on trying their signature rose-shaped ice cream on a chocolate-dipped cone.

The presentation of the rose-shaped ice cream was stunning, and it made the whole experience feel special. As I took my first bite, I was instantly transported to gelato heaven. The texture was incredibly creamy and smooth, and the flavours were rich and authentic. I chose a combination of flavours including coffee, dark chocolate and hazelnut chocolate. They were delicious!!! In addition to ice-cream, the shop also offers other desserts like macarons, waffles, crepes etc.

The shop itself is not so big but it had a cozy ambiance, perfect for enjoying a gelato treat with friends or just savouring the moment by yourself. The staff were friendly and offered helpful recommendations, making the experience even more enjoyable.
