I booked the double room with a private bathroom by emailing Peymans which was an easy process. Since we’ve never been to Cambridge before, I was hoping they would have a receptionist to make our check-in easier, but I was told that someone will meet us at the apartment instead and asked to call them an hour before to confirm our 7:30pm arrival.
We arrived at the Cambridge (City Centre) coach stop. It should have been a 5 minute walk, but I used the postcode to find the apartment which lead us a bit further. This is probably my fault because I noticed soon enough that Cambridge City Apartments (Peymans) was clearly displayed on Google Maps, accurately located. Therefore, using the postcode was unnecessary.
Check-In We arrived 15 minutes earlier than expected, but I was pleasantly surprised that Alasdair came out to welcome us from another room in the same building. We didn’t need to wait at all and it seemed convenient for the both of us. He showed us to our room and how to leave the keys when we check out. This was a nice advantage compared to having a receptionist because we were attending a wedding in the morning. It was so convenient not to potentially “wait in line” at a desk, but just leave the keys and go.
Room The double room was very clean, quiet and a good size for two people. It was about the same size I would expect from any standard hotel room. I was happy to see a small modern kitchen with 2 stove tops and a microwave. The cupboards also had plates, utensils and mugs. There was a small basket full of coffee, milk, sugar and tea packets. Plus, chocolates on the bed. Their bathroom toiletries had everything you needed. It surprised me how well equipped the room was. We also enjoyed our time watching the HDTV and using their fast WIFI connection.
It was also very convenient to have Aladair’s mobile when we needed some assistance. He was quick to help us and we had a smooth check in/departure thanks to his clear instructions.
Restaurants Since we were only staying one night, we didn’t bother checking the supermarkets, but there were a few restaurants around. We enjoyed eating at a Korean restaurant, Bibimbap House, for dinner which was a 12 minute walk from the apartment. We also bought some food for breakfast at a convenience store along the...
Read moreUncomfortable bed. Clean linens and towels. Odd taps. Kind of stylish but quite minimal. Great location and views. The kid's beds (2 singles) were fine, but the main double (a sofa bed) was clearly worn out, with noisy springs (SPRONG!!) that poked you in the back, very hard to sleep. Check in and registration was all a bit off too. Would not...
